The client and the Tax Team–
Our client is a growing Big 4 firm based in Cork City. There are circa 40 people working in their tax team, who look after a wide variety of clients from privately owned business to global multinational corporations servicing all different tax heads.
The role (s) – Tax Manager –
Why is it available? A couple of staff have left to go travelling which has opened the door for Tax Managers/ Senior Managers open to a new challenge.
You will be tasked with managing a portfolio of Irish based and international CT clients. The role with have mixture of compliance and consulting work. There will also be a training and mentoring trainee and more junior staff members.
How is success measured? –
Success in a manager’s role is based taking ownership and developing relationships with clients. Cross team communication/ collaboration is highly valued.
What are the long-term progression opportunities?
Promotion usually takes place every 2 years or sooner depending on a particular business case. There is every opportunity for the right person to progress to Director and above if that is the ambition.
What about work/ life balance?
The organisation promotes work/life with various wellness initiatives in place. Like in any tax role in practice, you will be busier than normal from September to December.
Remuneration –
Remuneration will be competitive along with bonus and other benefits.
What about the interview process? –
Questions the hiring manager typically asks might go something like this – “What have you done? What would you like to do?”
Interviews are not overly technical. It is about the person, what they can being and how they might fit within the team.
The interview process is usually one round, maybe two if another Partner requests a meeting.
Sign-off is there and the team is actively recruiting. All being right for both sides, you can expect an offer within a few days of the meeting.
Who are they looking for? –
They are currently looking for people who enjoy the buzz and intellectual challenge of working in tax practice. You will be a problem solver and team player with the ability to communicate clearly with clients and other team members. You might currently be in a SME or Big 4 firm.
About you –
To be able to do the job you will be/ have –
1. A qualified Tax Consultant – AITI
2. Have previous experience in a formal management role
3. Be based in Cork or the broader Munster region
