Overall Purpose of the Role
The Beacon Hospital Research Institute (BHRI) was founded in 2019 to respond to the growing portfolio of research in Beacon Hospital. The Institute is governed by a Board of Directors and the key research areas comprised of Allied Health, Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopaedics/Sports Medicine, Medical Oncology/Radiotherapy, General Medicine and Surgical Services are each represented by a Specialist Research Director.
The Beacon Medical Oncology Research Nurse position was established in 2021 to meet the needs of a growing Medical Oncology research portfolio and involves the co-ordination of all current and future clinical trials in the Dept of Medical Oncology, supported under the auspices of BHRI. This is an excellent opportunity to become a key team member in an established, innovative and rapidly expanding research environment.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Post
Actively assist in the operational management of existing clinical research projects in accordance with best practice guidelines and good clinical practice.
Coordinate speciality specific quarterly research meetings; act as secretariat to the speciality research groups meetings.
Work within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and research protocols associated with all clinical research activities.
Ensure patient confidentiality and dignity is assured and maintained at all times during a clinical trial/research project in line with Data Protection Act 2018 and Health Research Regulations 2018, as amended 2021.
Maintain and upkeep all clinical research documentation, including: site files, case record forms, monitoring arrangements, data correction and data collection
Prepare (with the help of the sponsor company if applicable) all ethical and regulatory procedures (submissions, query resolution etc.) for the clinical research studies for which you are responsible
Review proposed research protocols and provide input to site study feasibility reports (e.g. annual site patient numbers, equipment / test availability etc.).
Attend any investigator meetings as appropriate relative to the studies assigned to you
Ensure prompt management of all study related correspondence
Ensure that patients are fully informed of all details pertaining to the clinical trial/research project prior to their recruitment
Screen patients in order to identify suitable study candidates
Ensure that all assigned studies are completed to the highest standards in accordance with ICH-GCP, HPRA/EU Directive requirements
Carry out other duties as appropriate to the post as may be assigned occasionally by the study team
Qualifications
Honours degree in Nursing.
Post Graduate qualification in cancer care / chemotherapy
Registered with NMBI.
Experience
Candidates must have
a minimum of four years' clinical work experience in Medical Oncology
experience with Systemic Anti Cancer Treatments desirable
a minimum of two years' experience working in oncology/related clinical research
