Vickerstock are working in partnership with a food manufacturing firm on the appointment of a Health & Safety Manager .
As the Health & Safety Manager, you will ensure all site personnel adhere to Safe Systems of Work, comply with relevant legislation, and follow established safety policies. You will promote a strong Health & Safety culture and have experience in driving behavioural change.
In your new role:
1. Manage the Health and Safety budget
2. Oversee the site's Health and Safety program, ensuring legal compliance and ongoing improvement
3. Keep all risk assessments and safe work systems current and applicable to site operations
4. Maintain the site's Health and Safety systems
5. Conduct specialised risk assessments, such as Manual Handling, COSHH, and DSE, to mitigate risks in line with standards, commercial, and legislative requirements
6. Ensure appropriate training and safety measures are evaluated and provided
7. Prepare Health and Safety reports and lead monthly Health and Safety management review meetings
8. Support site maintenance teams to ensure completion of statutory inspections, current PPM programs, and safe machinery use in compliance with legislative requirements
9. Actively assist in monitoring on-site contractors and controlling the Permit to Work System
10. Oversee emergency procedures and site fire safety arrangements according to fire safety policy and risk assessment
11. Monitor and report incidents classified under RIDDOR to the HSA and handle any resulting correspondence
12. Perform business risk analysis and approve all site-related risk assessments with line management support, making commercially sound recommendations to reduce risks
13. Assist the Site Training Coordinator in sourcing training based on needs assessments, particularly health and safety training, and deliver in-house health and safety programs as needed
14. Monitor compliance and conduct audits
15. Lead all communications with external authorities
16. Ensure accurate implementation and investigation of accidents/incidents to identify root causes and prevention
What you will need to succeed:
17. NEBOSH qualification or equivalent
18. At least 3 years of experience in Health & Safety Management within a manufacturing environment
19. Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations in NI and ROI
20. Background in managing health and safety in multi-site organisations
21. Demonstrated ability in influencing, coaching, communication, and time management
22. Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications
23. Driving on-site Health & Safety initiatives
24. Ability to perform effectively under pressure and with a solutions-oriented mindset
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
25. FMCG experience preferred
26. Understanding of Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing
