What is the role about?
The Database Administrator will support the Global Logistics Operations Center (G-LOC) and Corporate Logistics for the Transportation Management System (TMS) software and all interconnecting systems. This role will maintain and manage the Data Warehouse in order to support the analytics team as they create critical reports for the business.
Which tasks will you perform?
1. Operational tasks related to the data warehouse: performance tuning, database security, back-up, and so on
2. Close collaboration with the business teams to understand business challenges and find solutions through well considered building and maintenance of the Data Warehouse
3. Ability to work with data analytics team to understand and develop reports to measure success of business processes and identify areas to improve
4. Planning for and allocating the database system’s physical requirements, such as memory, disk space, network requirements, etc.
5. Modifying the database structure using information provided by application developers
6. Creating users’ profiles and ensuring system security by careful allocation of user permissions
7. Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreement, including number of installations, and taking care of licensing renewals
8. Creating a backup and recovery strategy for the database, and regularly testing the backups to ensure usability
9. Monitoring technical support for both database systems and related applications
10. Creating reports by querying from database (as per need). These reports can be in the form of pre-formatted reports using the application frontend, or custom-made ad hoc reports by the database administrator
11. Monitoring and optimizing the database’s performance using either manual or automated tools
12. Migrating database instances to new hardware and new versions of software from on premise to cloud based databases and vice versa
13. Have an ability to analyze, propose and develop new processes and procedures to improve how it works to support the TMS’s ongoing evolution
14. Any other duties commensurate with your skills and experience and as requested by your manager
What do we expect from you?
15. Bachelor in IT systems, Computer Science. Mathematics, Physics (or other exact sciences) supported with several years of experience as a Database Warehouse and/or in relevant professional experience
16. Excellent working knowledge of relational database systems like SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL
17. Proven analytical and problem-solving experience to develop robust and feasible data models with ability to abstract and think analytically
18. Experience monitoring data and implementing improvements to the design of the system
19. Solution focused with proven ability to problem solve and operate at pace and with a sense of urgency
20. Availability to travel internationally
