Irish Recruiter is looking for a Senior Mechanical/Building Services Engineering Lead to join a reputable Energy Agency. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead the energy efficiency and renewable energy engineering team in translating zero carbon ambitions into actions, delivering carbon neutrality.
You will play a crucial part in overseeing building-related energy projects and driving best practice in energy efficient design in building retrofits, while working closely with senior leaders in client organisations, at this critical time when strategic choices on decarbonisation are being made. This role presents a unique opportunity to significantly impact energy efficiency and sustainability in Ireland.
Role responsibilities
Deliver Successful Projects to Clients
Collaborate with colleagues, partners, contractors, and other stakeholders to develop and integrate energy-efficient designs and systems into building renovation projects.
Identify buildings significant energy uses, systematically challenge and analyse to identify the most effective energy improvement opportunities available, including ways to design out energy consumption up to NZEB/ZEB, and consider options for measuring and managing energy use post-implementation.
Advise clients on critical investment decisions considering the energy costs of the asset in operation, the potential optimisation of existing energy infrastructure and the inclusion of renewable energy options, in collaboration with internal multidisciplinary team.
Lead project planning, initiate projects by defining clear objectives, establishing project scopes, and assigning responsibilities to team members. Coordinate and manage the workflow, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule, with costs tracked and reported. On project completion, conduct evaluation to assess the project's success, including budget control, gather feedback, and identify areas for improvement. Drive an effective continuous improvement loop for future projects.
Oversee adherence to industry standards, codes, and Health, Safety and Building regulations, ensuring that projects meet quality assurance and compliance requirements. Maintain quality control throughout projects, ensuring that the deliverables align with the client's expectations.
Take a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making, as required, when challenges arise during project execution, making informed decisions and guiding the team toward effective solutions.
Proposal and Contract Development
Lead the identification and development of proposals for new projects, including accurate cost estimation for project expenses, material costs, labour expenses, and any additional resources and expertise required.
Identify the value proposition of the proposed solutions in comparison to the estimated costs. Emphasize the long-term energy savings and carbon emissions reductions derived from the implemented solutions to justify the proposed pricing structure.
Team Development and Talent Acquisition
Identify talent gaps and recruit skilled individuals to strengthen the team, ensuring the agency has the expertise necessary for expanding its services.
Create a structured career development plan for team members at various levels. Support and develop opportunities for continuous learning, additional certifications, and professional development courses. Encourage and support engineers on the path towards achieving Chartered status, providing guidance and resources.
Foster an environment that encourages autonomy, creativity, and problem-solving among team members. Recognise and reward achievements, contributions, and innovative ideas within the team. Encourage open communication and feedback to create a positive and supportive work culture.

Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and trends in the field of energy efficient design and energy engineering, looking for innovative solutions that can be integrated into the agency's offerings.
Explore R&D opportunities or partnerships to develop and implement new, more sustainable building systems.
Cultivate relationships with our network of European partners, key industry stakeholders, government bodies, and other related organisations to identify best practice that can be adopted.
Explore partnership opportunities to collaborate on larger projects or initiatives that align with the agency's mission, delivering significant reductions in carbon emissions.
Required skills and experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Renewable Systems Engineering. Master's degree preferred.
* 7-10 years' experience in Building Services /Mechanical Engineering role within a building services context (ventilation, cooling and air conditioning, heating systems etc) or a related field, with a track record in energy efficient design for non-domestic buildings and project leadership on low-carbon projects.
* Strong leadership, team management and mentoring skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in IES, Autocad, project management tools and techniques.
* Eng and CMVP qualifications desirable.
* Good understanding of the building services and construction industry in Ireland.
* Familiarity with the funding supports available for non-domestic retrofits.
* Flexibility for travel within Ireland for meetings, workshops, and events.
* Full clean driving license and access to a car.
* Eligible to permanently work in Ireland without any restrictions.
