Established in 1917, Leopardstown Park Hospital is set within beautiful private grounds and located in the picturesque suburb of Foxrock in South County Dublin. The Hospital has a unique heritage with a proud tradition of caring for ex-service personnel. Today the hospital retains its service personnel links and also meets the specialist older persons' needs of the general public. We are committed to the delivery of the highest standard of person-centred care and to supporting the development of our employees. We have large landscaped areas for Residents to enjoy,relax, garden or exercise. With 140 inpatient beds, the hospital is a public voluntary hospital run by the Leopardstown Park Hospital Board and subject to regulation by HIQA. It provides specialist older persons' services in the areas of rehabilitation, respite, day services and residential care.
The Hospital is entering a new era of development and modernisation with some areas being upgraded and infrastructure being replaced with a new hospital as part of the HSE capital plan.
Job Title: Physiotherapy Assistant Specified Contract 1 year Part Time
Purpose of the Post
Discharge the duties of the Physiotherapy Assistant
Objectives of the Post
The Physiotherapy Assistant will work under the guidance of the Physiotherapy Team to support the provision of Physiotherapy Services
**Physiotherapy Assistants are accountable for their actions in the delivery of client care and must not undertake any duty for which they are not trained. If the Physiotherapy Assistant feels that certain requests are beyond their capabilities, they should make this known to the person making the request.
The Physiotherapy Assistant will only take instruction in relation to any client specifically from a Physiotherapist.
Essential skills
The recognised qualification for Physiotherapy Assistants is the FETAC (NCVA Level 5) Health Care Support Certificate
The modules on Physiotherapy Assistant Theory and Physiotherapy Assistant Practice are desirable.
Newly recruited Physiotherapy Assistants will be required to undertake these modules as soon as they become available to them.
Good standard of education
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients
Computer skills required for entering statistics and completing client records
Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise tasks

Remuneration is in accordance with Department of Health/ Health Service Executive consolidated pay scales.
The current salary scale attaching to this post is €34,434 per annum rising to €43,539 a 9-point scale (based on full time employment). Where employment is less than full-time employment, remuneration will be calculated on a pro rata basis.
Hours: 19.5 Hours Part time
Annual leave: 23 days pro-rata
Superannuation: Local Government Superannuation Scheme or SPSPS Scheme
Probation: 6 months
Resignation: 4 weeks' notice required
Principal duties and Responsibilities
The Physiotherapy Assistant will participate in maintaining a safe environment for clients and staff by maintaining vigilance to identify potential hazards and taking the necessary steps to remove such hazards.
These steps will include:
* Ensuring all practices adhere to Infection Prevention and Control guidelines
* Assist in keeping all relevant practice areas clean and tidy
* Move or assist in moving furniture and equipment as necessary
* Tidy and clean each vacated treatment area after use
* Return equipment to allocated storage area
* Attending to the hygiene of equipment after use
* Attending to spillages promptly to prevent any accidents
* Report broken or damaged equipment
Other duties will include:
* Assisting with client mobility under the direction of Physiotherapy Team
* Escorting/transporting clients within the hospital
* Remaining with clients who require supervision under the direction of Physiotherapy Team
* Producing personal exercise lists/leaflets under the direction of the Physiotherapy Team
* Scheduling attendance times for clients
General Responsibilities
Carry out departmental stock control, order and receive supplies
Recognise the importance of frequent communication between Physiotherapist and Physiotherapy Assistant
Communicate effectively and appropriately with a range of different service users and the interdisciplinary team
Observe confidentiality when handling client or organization information
Carry out administrative duties (eg filing, answering phone, recording statistics, photocopying, fax, post and moving/retrieving healthcare records
Actively participate in mandatory training and performance appraisal and personal development plans in conjunction with line manager.
Undertake training and further learning to develop the personal skills to improve the standard of client care
Participate in the induction of undergraduate students on clinical placement
