Senior Reinsurance Technician
The Role involves supporting the Reinsurance Manager in leading the purchase and management of Treaty reinsurance arrangements for RSAII DAC. Time will be spent engaging closely with the leadership of the relevant businesses, Group Reinsurance and with the external marketplace to maintain alignment between the business requirement and the reinsurance capacity and Treaty arrangements required to support it; while also ensuring adherence to agreed risk appetites/strategies and compliance with Regulatory requirements.
It involves working directly with reinsurers and brokers negotiating commercially beneficial contractual arrangements and developing best practice standards. It will mean using technical and analytical skills to manage and control local reinsurance risks and claims in line with group policy and regulatory requirements and will add value through the ability to support and deliver competitive advantage from reinsurance arrangements.
You will use your relationship skills to effectively build and enhance the RSAII reinsurance programme.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Play a leading part in the development of the Local Reinsurance strategy and policy in general and with particular reference to the needs of relevant business units
2. Engaging with local technical and business leaders in order to assist the Reinsurance Manager to develop Reinsurance Plans that reflect mutual understanding of the business requirements for reinsurance and the business implications/opportunities of new or proposed reinsurance arrangements.
3. Work across all aspects of the local reinsurance placement process, including reinsurer review, data compilation and validation for the submission, submission review, follow-up for additional information and securing and obtaining execution of all necessary contract documents.
4. Take part in the negotiations with relevant Reinsurers and/or brokers for allocated Reinsurance purchasing activities, working closely with Group Reinsurance team and Group Portfolio Purchasing Managers to establish appropriate arrangements on good commercial terms in line with the agreed strategy and policy
5. Draft and present, in the absence of the Reinsurance Manager, executive reporting reinsurance summaries and other internal communications.
6. Developing, maintaining and leveraging good relationships with relevant Reinsurers and brokers in order to provide optimum business benefit e.g., in the form of: Innovative, commercial reinsurance arrangements. Input to new product/portfolio development. Sharing of expert knowledge and information.
7. Work with Claims to handle significant and complex reinsurance claims, liaising with Reinsurers, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
8. Monitoring reinsurance finance reporting, planning and credit risk.
9. Take local and Group technical referrals with respect to Reinsurance aspects, as necessary.
10. Ensure effective oversight and control of reinsurance risks in line with agreed policy, risk appetite, commercial goals and the Group Reinsurance License, reporting and making recommendations as appropriate.
11. Leading and/or contributing to strategic projects and change programmes as and when necessary.
Attributes and Qualifications
12. 5 years + experience of working in reinsurance either at a broker, reinsurer or a primary carrier
13. Comfortable working with data and generating management information reports
14. Experience in negotiating reinsurance arrangements
15. Ability to work to tight deadlines with a commitment to delivering quality results.
16. Ability to drive change and initiate/execute process improvements
17. Experience and understanding of the Irish Property & Casualty insurance market
18. Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
19. Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal
20. Strong ability to communicate technical topics in an easy-to-understand manner
21. Well-organized and detail-oriented work ethic
22. Relevant 3rd level qualification (desirable)
23. CIP, ACII or equivalent insurance qualification (essential)

24. This role is a "controlled function" as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that you meet the requirements as set out in the Fitness & Probity standards issued in this Act.
