The Role
ESB operates across the energy market, from generation through transmission and distribution, to supply of customers in addition to using our networks to carry fibre for telecommunications. ESB is a leading Irish utility with a regulated asset base of approximately €10.9 billion (comprising ESB Networks €8.8 billion and NIE Networks €2.1 billion), a 33% share of generation in the all-island market, and retail businesses supplying electricity and gas to over 1.9 million customer accounts throughout the island of Ireland and Great Britain.
ESB is looking for a high performing Press Officer and Digital Content Editor to join Corporate and Regulatory Affairs. As a member of the Press Office team, you will deliver on implementing plans and processes for strengthening ESB’s profile in print, broadcast, digital and social media and will be part of a team responsible for the day-to-day interaction with the media and the execution of our external communications activity. The successful candidate will deliver all press office duties which includes the creation and management of content for our corporate website and social media channels.
A key function in delivering ESB’s Strategy – Net Zero 2040 is that the corporate press office efficiently manages large volumes of media queries and associated content across our digital communication channels.
This role will report to Media Relations Manager.
ESB Head Office, Dublin 2 and in line with our Smarter Working principles and flexible working.

The successful candidate may combine remote / smart working within the jurisdiction, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and subject to ongoing review.

Key Responsibilities
1. Responding to queries from media organisations and other representatives.
2. Writing press releases, statements, editorial content, web and social media content, in line with ESB’s Digital Identity Framework i.e. tone of voice, meeting user needs, content and imagery alignment.
3. Issuing press releases, statements, briefings and information to the media.
4. Supporting the creation and delivery of PR/Media opportunities through press releases, content creation website, blogs and social channels.
5. Providing media advice to colleagues and internal stakeholders.
6. Facilitate media interviews with national and local media outlets and provide media training as required.
7. Developing and maintaining media distribution lists and photo libraries.
8. Daily monitoring of all media coverage, analysing and reporting.
9. Developing Strategic Communication Plans for various projects and campaigns across the business lines.
10. Keeping up to date with all issues that impact the company and the energy sector.
11. Working with the business units and Digital Content and Website Manager in the planning and implementation of content strategies for web and social media.
12. Developing content for ESB’s corporate website (www.esb.ie) and Social Media channels for strategic updates, business developments, and other corporate activities.
13. Supporting and advising business units on web content creation, editing and publishing, as well as curating and managing associated analytical information.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
14. An education to 3rd level degree or equivalent, including courses in creative writing, copyediting, news writing, digital & social media and marketing.
15. Qualifications in PR or Communications.
16. At least seven years previous experience in a communications/public relations role.
17. Competent in all aspects of print, broadcast, online and social media.
18. Excellent organisational skills, a self-starter with the ability to work under pressure and to short deadlines.
19. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as good editorial skills.
20. An ability to work as part of a team.
21. Good working knowledge of digital and social media, IT and all applications relating to communications.
22. Proficient with social media channels (Flickr, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter etc.)
23. Strong capability of Sitefinity CMS as well as basic CSS, HTML and Google Analytics.
24. A flexible and committed approach to the job.
Desirable
25. Preferably, you will have experience working in a similar fast paced communications role within the energy sector and experience of dealing with crisis communications situations.
26. Full Clean Driving License.

Salary
€54,000- €64,000 per annum.
