Job Purpose
As part of the Core Technology R&D team in Transitions Optical, you will be responsible for identifying and implementing new technologies and methodologies as part of research and development of new photochromic coating products. You will work as part of the functional team by driving individual input, as well as mentoring others and contributing to delivering the overall groups’ objective. Embedded in a global and cross-functional team, you will contribute to the effective problem solving and technology transfer from early stage R&D to the manufacturing facilities to complete the industrialization and commercialization of our products.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead early stage core technology development projects identified in the Innovation Pipeline to deliver new technologies which feed the 3-5 year product pipeline for the business.
2. Develop and perfect new coating formulations to achieve breakthrough product performance requirements.
3. Design and implement new processes required for implementation of new coating technologies.
4. Drive the successful development and transfer of technologies from product conception to industrialization and launch through cross-functional collaboration throughout the organization.
5. Direct others' technical activities, provide mentorship and own development plans for staff members.
6. Develop and present information to inform and influence internal and external customers and gain alignment across stakeholders.
7. Actively monitor regulations and lead R&D efforts to comply with changing requirements.
8. Document all Lab work to support applications for Intellectual Property and internal standards requirements, including ISO 13485.
Key Requirements
Honours Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field with minimum 8 years industry experience. Must be hands-on with laboratory work and process development experience.
Proficient communicator both verbally and in writing – adapts message to suit audience.
Adapts to change easily. Identifies the opportunity for change and drives for continuous improvement.
Must be able to work both individually and as a part of the team.
Desirable
Design of experiments using statistical software
Applied research in coating development
Previous experience in the optical or ophthalmic industry
Experience with product development under ISO13485 standard
