Overall Purpose of the Job
Based at a medical device plant in Clonmel the Catering Assistant will accurately and efficiently oversee the preparation of meals, vegetables, soups and other hot food products as well as prepare and portion food products prior to cooking. And assist where necessary. Also perform other duties in the areas of food and final plate preparation including serving and garnishing of cooked items and preparing appropriate items for all hot & cold menu item plates.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To report for duty on time in accordance with the weekly rota.
2. Work towards acquiring a full knowledge of all food & beverage policies and procedures in accordance with kitchen hygiene standards and HACCP.
3. Ensuring all crockery and cooking utensils are stored on clean shelves and in clean cupboards / drawers.
4. Ensuring that all storage areas are maintained to a high level of cleanliness.
5. Ensuring that all reasonable care is taken for the health and safety of yourself and others in the kitchen area.
6. Maintain good stock control on the cleaning store and record stocktaking weekly.
7. Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the Canteen’s recipes, portioning and serving standards.
8. Ensure compliance with HACCP regulations.
9. Check and maintain proper food holding and refrigeration temperature control points.
Qualifications and Experience
10. Experience in a similar environment cooking is desirable.
11. Must be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen staff customers.
12. Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift as required within the kitchen environment.
13. Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
