Senior Psychologist - Irish Prison Service – Dublin
Senior Psychologist required for locum with Irish Prison Service, Dublin.
This will be a split position based on two sites, Mountjoy Prison High Support Unit and Cloverhill prison.
The client group includes people who are mentally unwell in prisons, including those who are awaiting a bed or returning from the National Forensic Mental Health Service as a step down.
Mountjoy prison is a closed, medium security prison for adult males. It is the main committal prison for Dublin city and county. Cloverhill prison is a closed, medium security prison for adult males, which primarily caters for remand prisoners committed from the Leinster area.
Responsibilities:
1. Completion and/or supervision of comprehensive assessments and formulation of individuals referred to the psychology service.
2. Lead on developing behaviour monitoring procedures for each individual.
3. Provide significant specialist contribution to the multi-disciplinary Care and Management Planning for each person, ensuring that recommendations are linked to the person’s formulation.
4. Engage in and supervise evidence-based psychological interventions as recommended in the Care and Management Plan.
5. Assess and intervene with people referred to the IPS Psychology Service in relation to mental health difficulties and offence-specific needs.
6. Provide time-limited community intervention(s) to support a client’s transition from custody to community where clinically appropriate.
Essential qualifications and competencies:
1. Be eligible for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or the British Psychological Society (BPS).
2. (i) Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology recognized by PSI; or (ii) Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Counselling Psychology recognized by PSI.
3. Hold a minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience as a Psychologist.
Desirable but not essential:
1. Experience in addressing emotional, mental health, and offence-related difficulties with a forensic population in a group setting.
2. Experience providing consultation, education, guidance, and support to multidisciplinary colleagues.
3. Further therapeutic or research qualifications.
