Position Description
Liffey and Turlough Hill stations comprise four generating locations: 292MW of pumped storage at Turlough Hill and 38MW of hydro generation at Poulaphuca, Golden Falls, and Leixlip. These sites have a combined capacity of 330MW and include nine hydro generators, three Category A concrete dams, an embankment dam, tunnels, bridges, reservoirs, and various buildings and structures for operation and safety.
The Technical Services Civil and Stations Support Team Member will work across all functional areas within the station, including civil works, technical services, operations & maintenance, supervision, and contractor management. They will be responsible for supporting and delivering Civil Works activities on site initially.
This role requires a team player with good problem-solving skills, working to their level of competence and confidence. The successful candidate must be flexible, a self-starter, and able to provide support to other teams and projects as required.
Excellent communication skills are essential, allowing the individual to support and work effectively with staff at all levels within and outside the organisation. As required by the business, the successful candidate will receive training defined by management.
Key Responsibilities
* Provision of technical services to the Civil Engineering Manager, Plant Manager, and O&M team as required.
* Procurement support, including requirements for tendering and administering maintenance contracts.
* Contractor Management for projects as directed.
* Taking and validating dam instrumentation readings.
* Maintaining and updating standard operating procedures, risk assessments, and method statements for ongoing works.
* Managing general services and Environmental Services contracts, such as cleaning, water sampling, bund checks, waste management, baits, fire extinguishers, etc.
* Managing the Turlough Hill and Liffey Stations vehicle fleet.
* Providing callout cover for Leixlip dam and other locations as required by Management.
* Acting as a Work Controller under the safety rules and executing all duties required under the role.
* Providing permitting support as required by the business and providing backup permitting and supervision in the absence of the Civil Works supervisor.
* Undertaking a hands-on role if required.
* Performing any other duties assigned by line manager from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
* 3-5 years of relevant experience.
* Team building and leadership qualities.
* Experience in operating Work Management Systems and Contractor Management.
* A working knowledge of PCs and computerised control systems.
* Good written and verbal communication skills, including report and specification writing.
* A strong record of safety in work execution.
* A full clean driving licence.
Desirable
* Able to lead safety culture.
* Experience and knowledge of power station maintenance or maintenance practices in similar heavy process industries and/or construction site management.
* Knowledge of Safe Systems of work, permitting, and isolating processes.
* Project management skills/experience.
* Experience managing and supervising staff.
* Experience managing small projects and civil contractors.
* Knowledge or experience of engineering/document management systems.
* Tendering and procurement experience.
* Stakeholder management, engagement with landowners, local authorities, members of the public, etc.
Qualifications
* A qualification or competence in a civil, electrical, or mechanical field, or equivalent, or equivalent relevant work experience is required.
