The primary purpose of the post is to ensure compliance with the relevant Directives (2002/98/EC, 2004/33/EC Annex IV, 2005/61/EC, AML-BB and Statutory instruments 360 of 2005 and 547 of 2006) in Tipperary University Hospital.
The post holder is required to meet the quality standards as outlined in ISO 15189 and AML-BB standards.
The post holder will maintain and develop the service, providing expertise, education and consultation to clinicians, nursing and laboratory staff when required.
This will be achieved through referral, written care protocols and quality initiatives.
The post holder will participate in Tipperary University Hospital Haemovigilance team objectives.
The team's main objectives are to: · Ensure the safety of the transfusion system
· Educate clinical staff on best transfusion practice
· Train staff to Haemovigilance procedures
· Audit the transfusion practice throughout the hospitals
· Review and establish guidelines and procedures
· Act as a resource for advice or information pertaining to transfusion
· Investigate and report SAE/SAR's and non-conforming processes
· Implement best practice initiatives for patient blood management
Works closely as an integral of the Blood Transfusion/Haemovigilance Quality Team in Tipperary University Hospital, to ensure a comprehensive Haemovigilance service is provided at Tipperary University Hospital.
