Liquid Gas Ireland (LGI) is the association representing companies operating in the liquid gas (LPG) and renewable liquid gas (BioLPG) industry in Ireland. Our mission is to ensure that policy makers continue to recognise LPG and BioLPG as a cleaner, versatile, and alternative lower carbon, and renewable energy of choice for off natural gas grid energy users in the residential, commercial, industrial, agriculture, leisure, and transport sectors.
LGI represents its members in all relevant policy, regulatory, and stakeholder engagement to shape and contribute to policy goals related to the decarbonisation of heat, transport, and industry. The association also takes a leading role in safety, setting high standards for the safe, progressive development and use of LPG and BioLPG.
As a member of Liquid Gas Europe, LGI is committed to working with consumers, industry stakeholders, policymakers, and partners to support Ireland’s goal to improve air quality, drive decarbonisation, and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
About the role
LGI is seeking to appoint an experienced policy and public affairs professional to lead the association's policy, advocacy and communications efforts at a local, national and European level.
As the lead advocate for the association, the Policy Director will formulate and represent key policy positions through ongoing targeted engagement and network building among policy decision makers, political representatives, industry stakeholders, and the media.
The position also involves driving communications and advocacy campaigns as well as securing wide recognition of the association’s interests in the political and legislative arena.
The Policy Director will help formulate and execute the strategy of the association in agreement with the members of the association’s Public Affairs Working Group (PAWG) and working alongside the association’s appointed communications agency.
They will drive the internal workings of the association and will be accountable to the CEOs of the full members of LGI, the chair of the PAWG and its members.
Key responsibilities
* Develop LGI’s policy objectives, prioritising advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
* Lead the day to day working of the association, ensuring a joined-up public affairs, policy, and communications strategy, including the management of the appointed communications agency resources.
* Monitor, review, and provide detailed insight on the impact of relevant policy and legislative developments and develop and implement proactive public affairs strategies in response.
* Develop a strong network of senior policy, political, civil servant and industry groups and be a vocal and visible advocate for key sectoral priorities in the policy / public affairs sphere.
* Develop and execute policy and media outreach plans as well as proactively represent LGI’s policy positions across media and at relevant events and conferences.
* Prepare detailed, evidence-based responses to relevant public consultations.
* Identify new collaboration / alliance opportunities with like-minded third-party organisations to support the work of LGI.
* Draft relevant materials to support association meetings and events.
* Stay up to date on policy and regulatory developments, sharing regular updates to LGI members, including written overviews and presentations.
Requirements
* A related undergraduate or master’s degree, ideally in legal, economics, political science, international relations or public policy.
* At least 10 years’ experience in a public policy role or in a political setting with a strong understanding of the Irish and European public affairs landscape.
* Demonstrable experience in policy formation as well as a proven track record in influencing and delivering policy outcomes working with key policy decision makers and political stakeholders.
* Strong project management and people skills with experience in managing multiple projects and demands.
* Excellent written, editorial and storytelling skills combined with demonstrable experience of communicating to a wide variety of senior internal and external stakeholders.
* An interest in or knowledge of energy, environment, and climate policy would be desirable.
* Very strong communication skills including towards media and as speaker in conferences.
* Dynamic personality with a high level of integrity as well as a decisive and action-oriented leader.
