An important part of the staff role is to support our service users who have complex needs and help them to manage their emotions. The ability to be resilient, to communicate effectively and to utilise a variety of communication tools is essential.
Our dedicated staff team supports our service users to learn and develop their independence skills which includes tasks such as shopping, cleaning their flat, personal care, accessing the community, budgeting, and taking medication. Each staff member has something to bring to the role, and we encourage staff to use their humour, sense of fun, and creativity in supporting our service users with day-to-day life.
Where You Would Work: The Avenue
The Avenue is based in the heart of the community in Ardee, Co. Louth. It is currently home to one young lady who has mental health difficulties and autism. The aim of the service is to re-integrate the service user into the community, participating in daily community activities with an emphasis on healthy living. Increasing daily living skills is also a goal for the service user to allow them to lead a more independent life in the future. The service user is also re-commencing education opportunities which are supported by staff. The Avenue has built strong relationships with the service user's family and we welcome and support their close involvement. We actively support the service user to meet and visit their family members. In The Avenue, we aim to provide a person-centred approach to meet the service user's individualised needs. We believe that each service user we support should have the opportunity to lead active and fulfilling lives and have lots of fun along the way! Currently, high staffing levels are in place as the service user may engage in behaviours that challenge, including verbal and physical aggression towards staff. The team promotes a high-quality service and staff are all committed to ensuring that the service user they support are living a worthwhile life and are active members of their communities. Shift patterns currently are nine to nine days and nine to nine night duties for support workers. Team leaders are also required to work sleepover shifts. Staff are required to also work weekend shifts.
