DESCRIPTION OF PRINCIPAL INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER ROLE AT LILLY

We are currently constructing a Next Generation Biotech Drug Substance Manufacturing Facility in Limerick, Ireland. This state-of-the-art facility will incorporate cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and advanced data collection and analysis platforms, ensuring enhanced safety, quality, productivity, and process performance.
**Job Summary:**
The Principal Instrumentation Engineer will provide leadership and expertise on electrical & instrumentation issues during start-up and normal operations. This role requires a strong understanding of calibration programs, regulatory requirements, and equipment reliability.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Own and manage the site calibration program
* Responsible for all aspects of instrumentation equipment installed on site, including RCAi, safety / quality deviations, equipment upgrades, obsolescence, project support, MTBF, etc.
* Liaise with health and regulatory authorities
* Develop and implement new site calibration strategies and directives
* Provide engineering support to maintenance and equipment owners
* Ensure maintenance programs meet reliable operation of equipment
* Train maintenance personnel on new equipment, methods, and techniques
* Investigate and complete HSE & Quality observation/deviations write-ups as appropriate
* Maintain local maintenance procedures aligned with Global Engineering Standard & Engineering Best Practices
* Lead reliability improvements to identify equipment obsolescence in advance
* Analyse predictive & condition-based monitoring data to identify follow-up actions and prioritise implementation
* Contribute to site Specifications and SOPs development
* Support approved initiatives and drive continuous improvement
**Pre-Requisites:**
* 5+ years experience in a maintenance/engineering role, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry
* Demonstrated ability to act independently using good organisational skills
* Proven ability to use systems, procedures, and processes effectively
* Working knowledge of relevant EU directives (e.g. ATEX, etc)
* Familiarity with international engineering standards (e.g. NSAI, NECI, NEC, IEC, ISO, CEN, ISA, CENELEC, etc)
* Expertise in Troubleshooting and Equipment failure investigation
* Familiarity with Global Maintenance processes and procedures
**Educational Requirements:**
A Level 8 Degree in Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent.

**Personal Considerations:**
This role may require occasional calls outside normal working hours and attendance on site out of hours. Travel to external conferences or training may also be required.
