Appointment will be made on the speech and language therapy assistant salary scale (€34,434 - €43,539) at a point in line with Government pay policy.
Hours of work:
Full time, 39 hours per week.

Position Summary:
The post holder will work with the Stroke service team.
This post is one of 2 Rehab assistants within the stroke service and this person will rotate with the rehab assistant who works within the Stroke Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team.
When working with the ESD team, there will be travel to the patient's own home as the ESD service is based in the patient's home.
The duties of the assistant are performed under the direction of the physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist on the Stroke team and may be subject to variation according to the needs of the patients and the service.
ResponsibilitiesPrincipal Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical: To develop rapport with patients.
To complete duties as delegated by the Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), Occupational Therapist (OT), and Physiotherapist (PT).To develop and maintain all skills and competencies as required to complete duties designated by the therapist.
To assist the therapist in their assessment of clients/patients and implementation of treatment programmes.
This will include direct/hands-on assistance.
To assist the therapist in their provision of any therapeutic materials/equipment/aids & appliances as appropriate.
To use skills learnt to support conversation with people with communication disability.
To organise/prepare clients/patients for treatment sessions, as directed by the therapist.
To organise and supervise therapeutic activities, as directed by the therapist.
To adapt individual and/or group activities to facilitate patients with reduced physical and communication abilities.
To carry out specific exercise programmes with patients as directed by the OT, SLT, and PT.To clean equipment and to maintain the appropriate documentation as record of same.
To prepare resources to support communication (i.e.
communication folders, charts, passports, etc.)
as directed by the speech & language therapist.
To collaborate in the preparation of written materials in an accessible format if required.
To assist and participate in group therapy as required.
To maintain patient records within hospital standards.
To work with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
To work in the patient's home and in Beaumont Hospital as required.
Administrative:
To co-operate with data collection systems and departmental administrative procedures and to collate statistics as required.
To prepare and clean any equipment as required and to ensure that equipment is tidied away after use in line with hospital hygiene standards.
To assist with stock and resource control and the ordering of supplies and equipment and to ensure that supplies are stored appropriately once they are delivered.
To liaise with non-clinical services as necessary (e.g.
Technical Services, IT, Stores).To provide limited clerical support as required (e.g.
Photocopying).To comply with all relevant statutory, local and hospital regulations and policies at all times.
Working relationships:
To work closely with all other discipline assistants, admin staff, and any other relevant hospital staff in other departments of the hospital.
To manage working relationships in a professional manner.
To manage communications in a professional manner.
To negotiate effectively with relevant others when appropriate.
Other:
To attend mandatory training (e.g.
induction, lifting and handling, infection control etc.)
and other training as directed.
To attend departmental meetings and other relevant meetings.
To adhere to health & safety, hygiene, infection control, and all other hospital guidelines.
To undertake other duties as may be required by therapy managers.

QualificationsSelection Criteria:
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.

Mandatory:
Education & Registration:
(i) Possess the relevant Health Service Skills FETAC Level 5 qualification for a speech and language therapy assistant, physiotherapy assistant, occupational therapy assistant, or other equivalent discipline assistant.
(ii) Have obtained an equivalent qualification to (i) from another jurisdiction.
(iii) Be currently employed as a Speech and Language therapy assistant, Physiotherapy assistant, Occupational therapy assistant, rehabilitation/therapy assistant, or in a comparable assistant role
Desirable:
Experience working with adults within a hospital or adult rehabilitation environment.
Knowledge of the Irish Health Service.
Full drivers licence and access to a car.
Good computer skills.
