Position Overview:
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting the Warranty account and providing counsel, advice, and training on underwriting-related issues. They are also responsible for providing technical expertise in this business area and maintaining and improving the market reputation of the AmTrust brand.
The role:
1. Develop and underwrite a profitable portfolio of Warranty business as part of the Warranty team, taking ownership of performance for allocated accounts and for acquiring new business.
2. Monitor premiums, costs, and performance metrics for all schemes and advise on any remedial actions as appropriate to ensure long-term portfolio profitability and within company rates of return.
3. Evaluate appropriate risks by considering the risk costs, reinsurance cessions, capital exposure as well as the underwriting and general administrative costs to ensure profitability, using rating models as applicable.
4. Prepare policy terms and conditions, liaising with the Warranty team to ensure robust standardized wordings.
5. Monitor peer underwriters in their daily work to ensure profitability as well as efficient and cost-effective administration of the Warranty account.
6. Comply with AmTrust’s underwriting control standards.
7. Advise, assist and service clients on insurance and risk matters to ensure client satisfaction.
8. Foster positive relationships with brokers, clients, and other third parties to get a mutual understanding of both their and AmTrust’s needs.
9. Maintain awareness of the overall AmTrust product range and take advantage of opportunities to introduce other AmTrust products to clients.
10. Leverage networking opportunities within the business to develop standardized underwriting policy and best practice within AmTrust.
11. Develop best practice and disseminate business and class knowledge within the Warranty team.
12. Work with the Warranty team to maximize profitable business opportunities. This will include but not be limited to sharing market information, best practice, and cross-selling opportunities.
13. Production of presentations and technical input into marketing literature as required.
14. Production of business plans/research documents for the Warranty account as required.
15. Comply with AmTrust procedures, policies, processes, and regulations relevant to the role. Undertake relevant training on AmTrust policies and procedures as delivered by your line manager, the HR team, or Compliance team.
16. Make certain that products are customer-focused, competitive from a pricing and coverage standpoint, and are compliant with all relevant insurance laws, regulations, and Company strategic plans.
17. Support strategies and plans in place for the management and control of key portfolio risk exposures.
18. Support the development, implementation, and execution of operational plans to meet strategic aims and corporate objectives.
19. Monitor the marketplace to identify, assess and make recommendations about underwriting opportunities and/or threats presented by new and/or emerging risks and opportunities.
20. Assist in periodic underwriting audits, both of directly written business or business written through cover holders/external underwriting agencies, to be certain philosophies and procedures are being followed and product loss ratios are at an acceptable level.
21. Demonstrate appropriate, consistent, and complete consideration of our customers and potential customers’ interests, throughout our business, on a continuous basis.
22. Engage with other departments and key stakeholders within the business as required.
23. Other duties may be assigned in order to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
24. Occasional travel to meet with clients as required.

* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, management, finance, or related area preferred;
* Maintenance of a recognized insurance qualification – minimum CIP;
* 8-10 years of experience in Warranty (personal/consumer lines or affinity business);
* Complex decision making;
* Strategic ability coupled with operational execution;
* Ability to assess and balance risk;
* Effective communication and presentation skills; and
* Proficiency with MS Office and other programs.
