Location: Arts Alive Galway is a community-based arts programme for people with intellectual disabilities set in the heart of the West End in Galway City. We provide an innovative programme of arts training where adults with an intellectual disability can focus on both personal and artistic development. We also enjoy working as an ensemble, bringing performing arts projects and exhibits to a high standard and giving our group a voice and a place in the artistic community. We frequently collaborate with professional artists to bring shows, projects and exhibitions to life. The Role: The Senior Instructor/Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the service and will provide leadership and supervision at a local level, ensuring the service delivered is person centred ethos. It is the Senior Instructor/Supervisor responsibility to ensure that the supports of each person reflects the organisations' core values and the personal outcome measures. The Senior Instructor/Supervisor will also be expected to stand in for the Team Leader in their absence, and be capable of assuming the role of senior person on duty when required, offering a point of contact. INDW Reporting/Responsible To: Team Leader/ Service Coordinator/Area Manager Qualifications/Experience/Skills: Candidates should have at least QQI Level 7 qualification relevant to the Social Care sector, Therapy Assistant, Community Development, Creative Digital Media, Creative Arts, Arts and Design i.e. Pottery, Ceramics, Craft Textiles. At least 2-3 years previous experience in designing and implementing programmes to enable them to carry out successfully the duties of the post together with an appreciation of the needs of persons with an intellectual disability. Working knowledge of New Directions and the associated auditing framework. The successful candidate must have experience of managing and supervising a staff team and be up to date with current policy and legislation relevant to intellectual disability services. As an arts based programme it is necessary to have a proven track record in the performing or creative arts field and be familiar with several forms of artistic expression. This includes a working understanding of accessing arts based grants from various bodies to support initiatives as well as having connections in the Galway/National Arts industry, and support Arts Alive members to access these supports. They will also be involved in the implementation of an educational, social, vocational, recreational and personal development programme for adults with an intellectual disability. A full Class B manual Driving Licence and access to your own transport is an essential requirement of this post. Candidates must demonstrate leadership, management and planning skills as well as the ability to set goals, implement and review. Candidates must have the ability to exercise good judgement, discretion and confidentiality, to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms and co-operate in a team environment with a person-centred philosophy. Experience in establishing links with the community and local enterprises is essential. Experience in education, day services or creative arts is an advantage Previous experience of shift leadership is highly desirable A full clean manual Irish Driver's Licence is essential. Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post. Working Hours: 78 hours a fortnight based on a 5-day week duty roster. The normal working hours will be Monday - Friday but may involve weekend work if required to meet the needs of the people we support or Personal Outcomes. Contracted hours of work are liable to change from 8am to 8pm over 7 days to meet the requirements of the programme. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. The successful candidate will, on occasion, be required to demonstrate flexibility in their hours of work to support people with social events or short breaks. Agreed allowances are paid in respect of hours of work as appropriate. Annual Leave: 22 days per annum. Remuneration: Department of Health Workshop Supervisor/Instructor Senior salary scale (01/03/2025) - €40,120 x 8 increments - €50,778 (Maximum) per annum. LSI1 €52,423 is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. LSI2 €54,163 is payable after a further 3 years. Tenure: This position is Permanent full-time and pensionable. Probation: A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment.
