Health and Safety Officer
A key role in supporting Peter McVerry Trust to achieve its operational and strategic vision through the successful implementation of health and safety systems and processes.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Officer to join our Corporate Services Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures across all services and sites. They will also develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive systems and programs to safeguard the well-being of participants, staff, and members of the public.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols
* Conduct regular health, safety, and wellbeing audits and risk assessments
* Provide specialist advice, guidance, and instruction on health and safety matters to management teams and staff
* Foster a positive and supportive environment where staff learn from incidents and are willing to report adverse events
* Actively participate in committees and working groups, including health and safety and risk committees
* Ensure the PMVT Management Team is accurately appraised on the management of health and safety
* Establish systems to allow for appropriate organisational responses to national standards frameworks and regulatory bodies
Requirements
* Hold a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 8 (or higher) major academic award in Health and Safety or other relevant area
* A minimum of 3 years' experience in an Occupational Health and Safety Officer/Advisor role preferably in the non-profit or social sector
* Relevant Professional Membership accreditation
* Full driving licence and use of car / Ability to meet the mobility requirements of the post
* Demonstrate expertise in health and safety management systems and processes
* Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of safety statements, risk assessment/risk registers/reporting, monitoring, and auditing
Desirable
* Demonstrate the ability to proactively identify areas for improvement and develop practical solutions for their implementation
* Demonstrate the ability to embrace change and adapt local work practices accordingly
* Demonstrate the ability to use resources effectively, challenging processes to improve efficiencies where appropriate
