Lead Commissioning Engineer – 220kV/110kV Substation projects - Republic of Ireland - €Excellent Day Rate + Accommodation, Car & Flight Expenses - 4 Month Contract + Extensions - ASAP Start Date (May latest)
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Commissioning Engineer to join our client, a tier 1 contractor in Ireland, for substation commissioning work. The successful candidate will have proven expertise in commissioning 400kV/220kV/110kV (or similar HV voltage levels) substations and will be responsible for executing commissioning tasks on primary, secondary, and protection systems. This role demands hands-on experience with HV equipment and testing instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead commissioning activities for 220kV and 110kV substations, ensuring high-quality work in line with industry standards and client specifications.
* Execute testing and commissioning of primary and secondary systems, including Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Surge Arrestors, and Voltage Transformers (VTs).
* Perform testing and analysis of Current Transformers (CTs) and ensure all protection systems are correctly configured and tested.
* Oversee and guide junior commissioning engineers, ensuring efficient and effective execution of work on site.
* Work with testing equipment such as CT Analysers, Omicron, Megger, and other relevant tools.
* Coordinate with project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration of commissioning activities.
* Prepare and deliver detailed commissioning reports and documentation, ensuring all work is compliant with legal and technical requirements.
* Act as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders during the commissioning phase, ensuring excellent communication and problem-solving.
Experience and Qualifications:
* At least 5 years’ experience in HV substation commissioning, with a strong focus on HV substation systems.
* Proven hands-on experience in commissioning primary systems (Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Surge Arrestors, etc.), secondary systems (Protection and Control), and protection systems (including relay testing and configuration).
* Experience working with key testing equipment such as CT Analysers, Omicron, Megger, and other relevant commissioning tools.
* Ability to deliver high-quality work within tight timelines, ensuring compliance with safety and technical requirements.
* Strong leadership and mentoring skills to guide and support junior commissioning engineers.
* Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to troubleshooting during the commissioning process.
* Full capacity to work independently and manage commissioning activities with minimal supervision.
* Qualifications in electrical engineering (Degree or equivalent).
* Strong attention to detail with a focus on delivering precise and accurate commissioning work.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with clients, project teams, and subcontractors.
* Ability to work under pressure and handle complex commissioning challenges.
* Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
