Job Title:
A Structural Engineer is required to work on a variety of projects, collaborating with Project Managers and other teams to ensure compliance with regulations and requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Liaise with Project Managers during the design development to construction stage to ensure proposed services support systems comply with all regulations and requirements.
2. Carry out preliminary designs and design checks on proposed support systems, including secondary steelwork, their fixings to the main structure, and service fixings and hangars.
3. Assess the impact of secondary steelwork load on the capacity of the primary structure and members.
4. Design temporary works in conjunction with site Temporary Works Coordinators and third-party installers for services such as AHU's or large plant on roofs over atriums.
5. Liaise with Project Supervisor Construction Stage and Site Safety Manager regarding design elements.
6. Package design work for formal checking by Project Structural Engineers or external designers and ensure written confirmation is received and filed.
7. Liaise with Project Managers to ensure QA requirements associated with design work are fulfilled.
8. Review construction drawings for design elements that may need further development and checking.
9. Liaise with design teams and project coordinators to ensure necessary information is prioritized and issued in accordance with the construction schedule.
10. Assist Project Managers in setting out design responsibility to subcontractors and carry out necessary design checks.
11. Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning meetings, coordination meetings, and handover meetings as necessary.
12. Closely monitor project items to ensure timely completion in line with agreed timelines.
13. Issue regular reports to Project Managers on design work undertaken or completed for the project.
14. Develop and implement company procedures with project managers.
15. Verify that builders' works set out on construction drawings do not compromise the primary structure and advise Project Structural Engineers accordingly, gaining formal approval.
Educational Requirements:
* Degree qualified in Structural Engineering or equivalent essential.
Experience and Skills Required:
* Minimum 3 years of design experience essential.
* Experience developing secondary steel design for MEP services.
* Experience working in structural steelwork, prefabrication, modularization, or services essential.
* Sound mathematical and IT skills, familiar with design packages and load capacity data sources.
* Understanding of site technical and feasibility studies, including site investigations.
* Understanding of structural detailing and required calculations.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Interest in furthering expertise.
* Commercial understanding.
* Awareness of Health, Safety, and Environmental systems.
