Appointment will be made on Plumber Grade (€40,153 - €46,395) at a point in line with Government pay policy. Candidates are required on occasion to be on-call during unsocial hours which you will attract additional allowances and payment to the basic salary stated.

The successful candidate will be a competent tradesman in mechanical work. The range of equipment in the Hospital covered by the mechanical shop is wide and requires a high level of experience and capacity to respond to problems. One key aspect of the mechanical service is to understand the importance of patient, visitor and staff safety.
Responsibilities:
* To carry out all aspects of mechanical work in the hospital as assigned
* To be available on a rota basis to carry out on-call duties, one week in three.
* To take control of all work and duties assigned to him/her.
* To be responsible for the maintenance / installation of equipment and plant and to arrange such supplies and materials as necessary for the execution of all work.
* To perform work on an overtime basis within reasonable limits as may be required from time to time.
* To perform the duties of mechanical crafts person in any hospital department or at such other locations as may be required by the Beaumont Hospital.
* To maintain a satisfactory standard of work.
* To report to immediate supervisor on any irregularities that might adversely affect the performance of assigned duties.
* To be willing to report to the hospital outside of normal hours for emergency duty.
* To perform such duties appropriate to his trade as may be assigned by the Technical Services Manager or other persons as may be assigned by the Beaumont Hospital Board.
* To maintain such records and systems as may be required including permits and inspection logs and ensure that all documentation within the department is completed satisfactorily and efficiently.
* Attend to the maintenance and routine repairs of all mechanical services, plant and equipment. This shall include installation, maintenance/preventative maintenance and repairs of heating ventilation and air-conditioning systems medical gas pipeline systems.
* Operate and carry out planned preventative maintenance programmes as set out by the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Foreman or delegated person.
* Carry out other associated trade duties.
* Operate and work with new technology and provide and maintain such written and computerised records, as required from time to time.
* Liaise with outside contractors, as required.
* Operate within existing productivity agreements.
* Be accountable for all tools, stock or equipment under his control and to ensure that all such equipment is kept in the proper state of repair in accordance with safety standards.

In exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 22 of the Health Act 2004, I hereby approve the qualifications, as set out hereunder, for the appointment and continuing as a Plumber in the HSE.
1. Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc
o (a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Possess a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 6 (or higher) Advanced Certificate Craft - Plumbing (or equivalent qualification).
o (ii) Possess the National Craft Certificate issued by FETAC.
o (iii) Possess the Senior Trade Certificate issued by Department of Education.
o (iv) Possess a Level 3 Technical/Trade qualification or equivalent issued by City & Guilds, London.
o (b) Candidates must possess the requisite technical knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability for the proper discharge of the office.
2. Age
Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.
3. Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
4. Character
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
