Subject Area: Part-Time Technical Officer for Digital Skills
Grade: Technical Officer
Hours of Attendance: 135 hours for the duration of the contract, 9-12 hours per week on Thursdays and Fridays
Post Duration: Fixed-term contract starting 23rd February 2025 until June 2025.
Reports to: Head of Communication Design
Salary: Technical Officer Hourly Salary Scale - €24.56 - €39.03*
*Candidates should note that as per Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform guidelines, entry will be at the minimum point of the scale and the rate of remuneration will not be subject to negotiation and may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.
Different terms and conditions may apply if you are a currently serving civil or public servant. NCAD's department of Communication Design is seeking a Technical Officer to support our BA Graphic Design, BA Illustration, BA Moving Image Design and Postgraduate courses.
Responsibilities: ? Provide technical assistance to workshop users, undergraduate and postgraduate students in the techniques and processes involved in the use of but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite in the Communication Design Department.
(Primarily through Adobe CC, with some support for application such as Dragonframe, Final Cut Pro)
? Demonstrate, as required, techniques and processes in the use of software and hardware in preparing digital files for output in both physical and digital formats
? Help students overcome specific technical problems that they encounter
? Assist in supervising students in the workshop.
Provide technical instruction and troubleshooting for Apple Mac and Microsoft — Industry standard workflow and file/folder structures including pre-flight preparation for industry-level fabrication.
? Co-operate with and provide supportive assistance to staff and students in bringing conceptual ideas to fruition
? Support teaching generally and demonstrate as necessary while supporting digital skills learning in consultation with academic staff
? Assist in the design and development of practical classes
? Assist in the development of student engagement and facilitate student learning through LinkedIN Learning
? Maintain and, where appropriate, construct equipment.

? Order, store and record appropriate materials stock
? Implement and adhere to all Health & Safety regulations at all times
? Ensure work areas are organised to facilitate efficient and safe functioning of the workshop
? Engage in appropriate administrative duties particularly regarding Health & Safety, store maintenance and purchasing
The candidate/s will be able to: - organise and help supervise both tech space and studio space
- help supervise and assist digital print production
- help supervise and assist on screen production
- provide ongoing technical assistance to students with regard to digital and physical equipment and software
- Demonstrate pre-press checks and liaise with external partners
- Have an understanding of industry standard production techniques
Mandatory Criteria: ? Academic qualification or equivalent relevant experience
? Relevant technical qualification or experience in the industry or a third level educational setting
? Experience in working with digital technology and maintaining an active interest in related developments within the sector
? Capacity and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary context within the Department, School and College
? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
? Strong leadership skills
