Position: Project – Environmental, Health and Safety Manager (EHS)
Location:50% Cental Engineering & 50% Project Site
Contract Duration: Fixed-Term (12 months)
Reporting to: Project Site Manager
Role Summary:
The Project Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager will lead the development and implementation of all Environmental, Health, and Safety protocols for a large-scale data center and high-voltage infrastructure project. This role is critical in ensuring that project milestones are achieved safely, with zero harm to personnel and minimal environmental impact. The EHS Manager will work closely with engineering, operations, and subcontractor teams to uphold the highest safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Individuals with experience in the construction and data centre industries, where Health and safety standards are of paramount importance, may be particularly well-suited for this role.
Upon the successful delivery of the project, there is the potential for this role to transition into a permanent position with Cental Engineering, supporting future high-impact projects within the modular build and high-voltage sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
1. EHS Project Leadership
* Develop and implement project-specific EHS plans, ensuring compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and Cental's internal policies.
* Conduct site-specific risk assessments, ensuring that high-voltage installations, heavy lifting, and modular construction activities are carried out safely.
* Establish and maintain safe work practices, including the oversight of Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures, permit-to-work systems, and other control measures.
* Collaborate with the project management team to embed EHS considerations into project scheduling, site logistics, and contractor management.
2. Regulatory Compliance and Auditing
* Ensure compliance with all relevant EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, local environmental standards) and act as the point of contact for regulatory authorities.
* Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and site walk-throughs, ensuring corrective actions are taken where necessary.
* Manage documentation for EHS compliance, including risk assessments, safety audits, incident reports, and environmental monitoring records.
3. Incident Management and Emergency Preparedness
* Lead incident investigations for any on-site accidents or near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
* Prepare and execute emergency response plans, ensuring all staff, contractors, and visitors are aware of site-specific emergency procedures.
* Coordinate safety drills (e.g., fire, evacuation, hazardous material spills) and emergency team briefings.
4. Contractor and Workforce Safety Management
* Provide EHS guidance and support to all project contractors, ensuring alignment with Cental’s EHS standards and project-specific requirements.
* Deliver EHS training and induction programs to new personnel, ensuring everyone on-site is familiar with safety protocols, equipment use, and emergency procedures.
* Promote a positive safety culture on-site, encouraging open communication on EHS concerns and continuous improvement suggestions.
5. Environmental Stewardship
* Lead environmental impact assessments, ensuring the project complies with all environmental regulations and standards.
* Implement and monitor sustainability initiatives, including energy efficiency, waste management, and pollution control, aligned with Cental's broader sustainability goals.
* Ensure compliance with environmental permits and reporting requirements, minimizing the project's ecological footprint.
6. Continuous Improvement and Lean Integration
* Apply Lean and Continuous Improvement principles to enhance safety processes, ensuring efficient and effective EHS practices are embedded into project operations.
* Work with the project team to identify opportunities for reducing safety risks and improving environmental performance, contributing to project success and on-time delivery.
Key Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
* Minimum of 5+ years of EHS management experience, ideally within large-scale construction, high-voltage, or data center projects.
* Proven track record of managing safety on complex, high-risk projects with a focus on electrical safety and modular construction.
* Knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
* Strong leadership skills, with experience in contractor management and leading cross-functional teams in a project environment.
* Excellent problem-solving abilities, especially in high-pressure, fast-paced project environments.
* Certifications such as NEBOSH, CSP, or CIH are highly desirable.
Desired Competencies:
* Ability to assess and manage risks in high-voltage and data center construction environments.
* Experience implementing EHS protocols in line with Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to influence both site-level teams and senior management.
* Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with project stakeholders.
Contract and Potential for Permanent Role:
This role is offered on a fixed-term contract basis, aligned with the project’s duration (12 months). However, based on the successful delivery of the project and demonstrated impact, there is potential for this position to transition into a permanent role within Cental Engineering, with opportunities to manage EHS responsibilities for future large-scale projects.
