Robotics and Mechatronics Safety and Compliance Specialist
The Autonomous Enterprise and Wafer Fab Sustainability Organisation are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Robotics and Mechatronics Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all developed robotics and mechatronics systems comply with safety regulations and standards. This role involves conducting risk assessments, developing safety protocols, and collaborating with engineering teams to implement safety measures as part of robotic deployments within ADI’s Manufacturing Facilities.
Responsibilities and Expectations
* Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of robotics and mechatronics systems.
* Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures.
* Perform regular safety audits and inspections along with hazard and risk assessments of robotics and industrial automation equipment.
* Prepare and maintain documentation related to safety requirement specifications, safety management plans, safety concepts, and verification and validation plans (including Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test).
* Monitor system performance, identify issues, and conduct root cause analysis.
* Investigate and report on safety incidents and near-misses.
* Collaborate with engineering teams to design and integrate safety features into robotic systems.
* Participate in feasibility and prototype testing to validate the safety of designs and proposals.
* Provide training and guidance to staff on safety practices and compliance requirements.
* Ensure control systems compliance with national and international safety regulations and standards.
* Apply IEC industrial standards for the development lifecycle of a robotic control system, and coach developers on processes to apply during this phase.
* Drive projects to closure; ensuring that systems can be manufactured, deployed, maintained, and meet regulatory requirements for certification.
* Stay updated on the latest safety regulations and technological advancements in robotics and mechatronics.
Qualifications & Related Experience
* Third level qualification in electronics, automation, robotics or other relevant engineering discipline.
* Demonstrate willingness to take on challenges and explore new domains in technologies and services.
* Demonstrate system-level thinking, effective communication skills and good technical writing skills.
* Knowledge of robot application integration in manufacturing systems.
* In-depth knowledge of the safety standards for machines (e.g. ISO 10218, ISO 13849) and of the machinery directive/regulation.
* Experience with functional safety standards (e.g. ISO 13849, IEC 61508) and their integration into the development process (e.g. tool qualification, testing).
* Familiarity with quality management, configuration management, document management and product lifecycle.
* Knowledge of communication protocols like FSoE, Ethernet, EtherCAT.
Advantageous Skills and Experiences
* Proficiency in identifying, analysing, and mitigating risks associated with robotics and mechatronics systems.
* In-depth understanding of safety regulations and standards such as ISO, OSHA, and CE, ensuring compliance in all operations.
* Familiarity with robotic control systems, software, and human-robot interaction safety to effectively integrate safety measures.
* Strong ability to convey complex safety protocols and compliance requirements clearly to various teams, ensuring everyone understands and adheres to safety practices.
