Job Position Summary
This role reports directly to the Sr. Director, Vision Care Manufacturing Engineering who leads the global Engineering function. You will provide strategic and technical leadership and tactical direction to a diverse team of Engineers, Technicians, and Project Managers focused on delivering a sustainable competitive advantage and operational excellence in safety, quality, delivery, and cost at the Contact Lens for the Ireland site.
Holding a critical leadership position at the Limerick site, this role will advise and control the activities of the Automation & Controls, Manufacturing Engineering, Injection Molding, and Capital Project Management Office (PMO) functions in developing and deploying technical solutions on highly automated production equipment and processes demonstrating innovative technologies such as 3-D printing, robotics, and vision systems.
You will lead and supervise innovative change across all manufacturing assets through equipment upgrades, automation, robotics, IIOT, and other Industry 4.0 technologies. You will use Lean, Six Sigma, manufacturing asset management, and reliability engineering tools to optimize throughput, cycle-time, yield, and overall total cost of ownership for all manufacturing equipment and production systems.
You will have primary responsibility for leading and supervising the Limerick site Capital Investment portfolio, which includes long-term planning, forecasting, budgeting, and Capital Appropriation Request approval. You will build the capabilities of a project management office (PMO) tasked with direct management of capital projects and governance over the portfolio of site and platform projects.

You will engage, inspire, empower, and coach a highly competent team, collaborating across functions, sites, and the overall enterprise to enable year-over-year growth, new products, process simplification, and technology development.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for establishing a clear organizational vision, building process excellence, driving execution, and improving functional performance.
2. Direct, guide, and oversee capital long-term financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting of the site capital plan.
3. Organize monthly meetings for the Capital Appropriations Committee (CIC) with the site Leadership Team.
4. Lead business case development for capital investments articulating business value and overall value proposition.
5. Drive a culture of project management excellence and continuous improvement of project delivery practices.
6. Engage in identifying and sharing standard methodologies multi-functionally and establish performance metrics.
7. Lead the development of the manufacturing asset replacement strategy and incorporate results into the Fleet Strategy and capital budget.
8. Develop and implement the manufacturing strategy and technology roadmap, championing Industry 4.0 initiatives.
9. Supervise budget performance and ensure sound management of headcount and expenses.
10. Establish and manage Key Performance Indicators to measure functional and asset performance.
11. Stay updated on new developments and technologies, presenting 'Best Practice' methodologies to the company.
12. Engage, inspire, mentor, and develop peers and subordinates toward enhanced job performance and professional growth.
Qualifications
1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required; an advanced degree in Engineering or an MBA is helpful.
2. PMP or comparable Certification and familiarity with J&J Project Management approaches is helpful.
3. Professional Engineering Registration is helpful.
4. Minimum 12 years of relevant business experience required, preferably in the Life Sciences industries.
5. Experience in a highly automated, high-volume fast-paced environment is preferred.
6. A minimum of 8 years of people management experience with demonstrated success is required.
7. Manufacturing and/or Engineering experience in FDA or regulated environments is required.
8. Experience in managing a site capital portfolio is strongly preferred.
9. Ability to translate engineering goals into successful strategies is required.
10. Organizational change and project management skills are required.
11. Must demonstrate working knowledge of process development, validation, and equipment maintenance.
12. Knowledge of continuous improvement tools, lean manufacturing, and six-sigma is preferred.
13. Qualification in Project Management, such as PMP Certification, is an advantage.
