We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced journalist to join our team as a Political Correspondent.

Job Purpose
This is a prestigious role at The Irish Times, one of Ireland's leading news and media organisations, delivering agenda-setting political journalism at the highest level. Working closely with the Political Editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for breaking major political stories, producing exclusive content, and providing authoritative analysis of Irish and international politics.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver exclusive political stories that shape the national agenda and influence public debate.
* Provide expert analysis and interpretation of complex political issues, legislation, and government policy.
* Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts across government, opposition parties, political advisers, and policy experts.
* Work closely with the Political Editor to set the political coverage agenda and ensure in-depth, investigative reporting on key issues.
* Report from Leinster House and other political institutions, providing real-time updates, live analysis, and in-depth reports.
* Produce high-quality, accurate, and insightful copy under tight deadlines, covering breaking news, political developments, and long-form features.
* Originate investigative pieces that go beyond daily news cycles, uncovering the deeper stories behind political decisions and power dynamics.
* Represent The Irish Times across radio, television, and podcasting, contributing to political debate and expert discussions.
* Maintain an active and authoritative presence on social media, engaging with readers and driving public discourse on key issues.
Requirements
* A proven track record in political journalism, with experience reporting on Irish politics at a senior level.
* Demonstrate an ability to break exclusive stories and deliver impactful investigative journalism.
* Deep knowledge of Ireland's political landscape, institutions, and key figures.
* Confidence in broadcast and multimedia journalism, with experience contributing to podcasts, video analysis, and live media appearances.
* Highly skilled in writing sharp, engaging, and insightful analysis for a wide readership.
* An excellent network of political contacts and the ability to develop sources at the highest levels.
