“A Teaching Assistant post in the University of Limerick operates as a training contract. The duration of the contract is limited to 10 months. However, it may be renewed for one further period only not exceeding 10 months. Applications will only be considered from individuals who have not already received two Teaching Assistant contracts.”

The successful candidates will assist in the delivery of laboratory-based practicals, coordinate tutorial support, and contribute to the overall educational experience for our students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* A BSc in Biological Sciences or related discipline, level 8, Honours Level (2.2. or above) qualification. Final year students (expected to graduate in May/June 2025) are welcome to apply.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking two dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to support its BSc and MSc taught programmes. The successful candidates will assist in the delivery of laboratory-based practicals, coordinate tutorial supports, and contribute to the overall educational experience for our students. The appointees will also participate in departmental outreach activities in support of its academic programmes. Such other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be assigned by the Head of the Department.
DESCRIPTION:
The two teaching assistant positions are to support Biology-based modules mainly on the BSc in Bioscience, MSc in Molecular and Analytical Bioscience, as well as in BSc in Education. The indicative start date is mid-August 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist professors with the preparation and delivery of labs and tutorials.
* Grade assignments, exams, and lab reports.
* Provide group tutoring sessions to students.
* Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
* Assist in the development of course materials and resources.
* Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
* Support research projects at the BSc and taught MSc levels.
* Support outreach programmes and other Departmental initiatives.
Essential Criteria:
* A BSc in Biological Sciences or related discipline, level 8, Honours Level (2.2. or above) qualification. Final year students (expected to graduate in May/June 2025) are welcome to apply.
* Relevant teaching experience in a biology-related topic.
Desirable Criteria:
* MSc in Biological Sciences or related discipline.
* Postgraduate experience.
* Third level teaching experience.
* Proficient in laboratory techniques relating to cell culture, microscopy, flow cytometry, microbiology, and molecular biology.
