This 12-month contract posting as Automation Engineer in County Waterford offers the following responsibilities:
* Monitor quality and efficiency performance of assigned product lines, providing support to drive continuous improvement through process development, root cause analysis, and systematic problem solving.
* Deliver automation projects from quotation through to product manufacture, ensuring timely completion and customer satisfaction.
* Support design, buy-off, installation, and validation of automated production lines, ensuring seamless integration with existing processes.
* Manage assigned project budgets, liaising with customers and contractors as required, to ensure effective resource allocation.
* Conduct Process Characterization / Optimization (DFMEA's, PFMEA's, DOE's, MSA's etc.) to identify areas for improvement.
* Lead systematic technical root cause investigations to resolve complex problems and prevent future occurrences.
* Support production line ramp to achieve mature production targets, ensuring smooth transition and minimal disruption.
* Develop and implement production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most efficient manner for new and existing additive manufacturing processes.
* Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
* Support technical training to upskill staff and ensure knowledge transfer.
Requirements for the position include:
* The ability to work effectively in a team environment, fostering collaboration and open communication.
* Excellent organizational, communication, computer, and presentation skills to convey complex ideas simply and clearly.
* Skillful troubleshooting abilities to quickly identify and resolve issues.
* Strong leadership of technical issue resolution to guide teams towards solutions.
* Lean Six Sigma skills are an advantage, but not essential.
* The ability to provide innovative solutions to complex problems, thinking outside the box when necessary.
* Good data analysis skills to interpret trends and inform decision-making.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications, MS Project, and CAD software is desirable.
* A degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or similar discipline is required.
* At least 3-6 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in high-volume automated assembly, would be advantageous.
* Frequent travel may be required to support equipment buy-offs and training at vendor/customer sites.
