What Is the Opportunity?
Our Corporate team use their specialist expertise to offer bespoke insurance solutions to our largest and most complex clients in the UK and Ireland. Due our continued growth, we are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our team in any of our UK or Ireland offices
In this interesting and varied role, you will be involved from the early stages of client engagement through close interaction and collaboration with our colleagues in Risk Control, Claim, and other critical stakeholders both in the UK and the US. You’ll be responsible for triaging new business opportunities and developing prospects, leading the technical underwriting of these risks and helping to deliver Travelers’ bespoke customer proposition. You’ll manage an assigned allocation of large cross class renewal accounts and will also be one of the primary contacts for our regional underwriting teams, providing technical support to assist writing new business and retaining our existing accounts with our broking partners.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.
This role is eligible for a £2,500 new joiner bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.
What Will You Do?
1. Participate as an advisory / referral point to achieve responsible product development within the Corporate division to ensure it is consistent with profit, growth and retention strategies for the Product
2. Active Engagement in Key Case underwriting and new business
3. In conjunction with Regional and Branch Management, effectively mentor and coach development underwriting staff to ensure underwriting standards and profitability objectives are achieved for Product Development
4. Assist in the development and leveraging of broker / client relationships through a high level of visibility
5. Act as large case expert both internally and externally
6. Assist the Director Corporate to determine sector strategy
7. Encourage others to help achieve underwriting, sales, and production goals and understand and work towards strategic objectives
8. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in Head Office, Risk Control, Claims, Actuarial, and as needed, any other parts of the organisation.
9. In exercising own underwriting authority, assure that policies and accounts are effectively underwritten, handled and documented in compliance with company and regulatory standards and requirements.
10. Develop and leverage broker/client relationships through a high level of visibility and using a disciplined sales management approach (, planning and follow-up for broker and prospective customer visits/meetings) in support of business objectives.
11. Demonstrate superior customer service standards (consistency, quick response, knowledge of products).
12. Customer interaction focusing on meeting customer expectations for response time and knowledge of products and business.
13. Work strategically and tactically with brokers to ensure they have an appropriate level of understanding of BI goals and objectives.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
15. Advanced knowledge and ability required in respect of analytical thinking, judgment, decision making, communication and strong team work.
16. Demonstrates proven ability in respect of broker planning and engagement activities.
17. Demonstrates advanced ability in the areas of customer focus and positive broker interaction.
18. Demonstrates intermediate knowledge and ability in respect of Microsoft Office systems including Excel and Powerpoint.
19. Typically demonstrates advanced relationship management skills.
20. ACII preferred.
What is a Must Have?
21. Previous experience of underwriting in Property and Casualty classes of business.
22. Significant experience directly managing/engaging with large UK Corporate Clients.
