Job Overview:
Gym instructors (also known as fitness instructors) help gym members to achieve their health and fitness goals.
Responsibilities and Daily Duties Typically Include:
* Complete basic health and medical screenings
* Lead inductions and ‘how-to’ sessions for new members
* Implement Initial Exercise Programming
* Provide basic fitness testing
* Interact with members – ‘Walking the floor’
* Promote classes, services and promotions
* Offer technique advice and exercise alternatives
* Teach Multiple Classes
* Open & Close Facilities
* Carry out basic equipment maintenance
* Cover Reception and be a part of the Sales and Marketing of the Club
Salary:
€13.00- €15.00 DEO
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
* Level 2 Gym Instructor qualifications
Desirable:
* Anatomy & Physiology Certification
* Experience creating a programme for clients/members
* Practical experience working or training in a gym environment
* A ‘First Aid at Work’ qualification is desirable
* Class Experience
Skills & Traits:
As you would expect, gym instructors need to have skills centered around safe and effective gym usage.
This includes knowing how to use and instruct people on every single gym machine. They should also know how to deliver safe and effective group exercise classes.
You’ll need:
* The capacity to motivate customers
* A warm and outgoing demeanour
* Strong people skills to interact with a diverse spectrum of people with various backgrounds and motivations
* Thorough knowledge of the human body and nutrition and a passion for health and fitness
* Great time management and organisational abilities
* The ability to provide excellent customer service
* Excellent oral communication skills awareness and understanding of safeguarding practice and policy
* High levels of enthusiasm and drive
* Problem-solving and stress management skills
* The ability to use information technology for a variety of purposes such as record keeping, class scheduling, session reminders, sales and invoicing, client and group management, and client and group analysis
What to Expect in the Role:
Most gym instructors tend to work on shift patterns, which provides flexibility, but can also mean early mornings and late nights.
At its best, the work of a gym instructor can make a huge difference in members’ lives. On the other hand, it can also involve wiping down sweaty exercise equipment at 10 pm on a Friday night, we do both in One Life Fitness.
Career Path:
Gym instructors most commonly progress into becoming personal trainers. There are also options to move into gym management roles within our One Life Fitness various clubs.
