Job Description:
About Trinity: Trinity is Ireland’s leading university and is ranked 87th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2025). Founded in 1592, the University is steeped in history with a reputation for excellence in education, research, and innovation, which has been inspiring generations of thinkers for over 400 years.
Post Summary: The Clinical Research Facility at St James’s Hospital, Dublin has received funding to conduct a 12-month pilot project to improve contraception and menopause care for women attending the HIV, STI and PrEP services at the GUIDE Clinic, St. James’s Hospital. The objective of this proposal is to improve access to contraception and menopause care for vulnerable women (and trans men) attending the GUIDE clinic. The GUIDE clinic is the largest sexual health and HIV service in Ireland serving individuals from all over Ireland, many of whom experience complex psychosocial challenges. A significant proportion of the women attending the service have not accessed contraception since the rollout of free contraception in Ireland. Reasons for not accessing free contraception include not having a General Practitioner or for women living with HIV, not wishing to disclose their HIV status to their GP. The service also provides HIV and sexual health care to a small but important and vulnerable group of trans men who may experience challenges in accessing contraception services. Owing to advances in HIV care with effective treatment, people living with HIV are living longer. Women living with HIV experience an earlier menopause than the general population and do not currently have their menopause needs addressed as part of their HIV care. Many of these women do not have GPs. This project seeks to assess and meet the menopause needs of women living with HIV attending the GUIDE clinic.
Salary: Appointment will be made on the appropriate clinical scale in line with HSE guidelines and research experience will be taken into consideration.
