What's the role? Etsy is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our Risk Experience team.
You will be joining a team of software engineers, building features and systems to enable our international sellers to reach millions of buyers globally.
This role will be focused on improving the Buyer and Seller experience for the Etsy community from a Trust & Safety perspective, whilst ensuring the experience for bad actors is as difficult as possible.
All the members of this squad will be experienced engineers at Etsy that will support you in your onboarding.
The technology we build spans the full stack end to end; from user experience to API design, backend service development, vendor integrations, and database design.
Depending on the needs of the business, our team may need to move up and down the stack, and in many cases collaborate with other teams to get to what needs to be done.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager, Threat Mitigation & Risk Experience.

This role requires your presence in Etsy's Dublin office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office.
Candidates living within commutable distance of our Dublin office may be the first to be considered.
What's this team like at Etsy? Risk Experience's mission is to mitigate risk by closing various experience gaps prone to exploitation within the buyer and seller journey.
This team is focused on adding friction to the buyer and user seller journey through user experience changes.
Most members of the team are based in Dublin with some based in New York.

How do we increase the difficulty for bad actors to take over user accounts without making it painful for genuine users and impacting their user journey?How do we protect existing users from having their accounts taken over and used for illicit means?What does the day-to-day look like? Contribute at all levels; from front-end (HTML, CSS, JS, and relevant frameworks) to API design and back-end (PHP, MySQL, BigQuery), and standalone supporting services running in containers.Document technical design decisions.Participate in code and design reviews and maintain high standards of code quality to adhere to modern best practices.Work with supporting functions, such as analytics, product management, and design, to make sure we are building the right product for the right set of customers.Continuously learn from your teammates and share your own insights with them.Push code to production early and often using our continuous deployment systems.Empathy, ownership, communication, and technical skill are valued equally.Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are: At least 2+ years of software engineering experience.Have experience operating in a full-stack environment and owning the development of features end-to-end.Write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability and scalability.Find value in empowering data-driven decision making and building out experiments that enable big product and design decisions.Experience running A/B tests.Enjoy thinking about the implications of your work on end users.
You are comfortable collaborating with Product Managers and Designers to ensure that you're delivering impactful product features.Have excellent communication skills, and are enthusiastic and forward-looking!Are invested in Etsy's vision, mission, and values.Additional Information
