The Orchard is a large Independent Lifestyle destination encompassing indoor and outdoor living, garden centre, pet store and cafe.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Café Team Leader to join our busy café, Eden at The Orchard which is open 7 days a week. As the Team Leader, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth daily operation of the café, delivering excellent customer service, managing staff, and maintaining high standards in food quality and hygiene. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, have a passion for the hospitality industry, and demonstrate strong leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and support the café team, ensuring efficient operation during service hours.
2. Customer Service: Maintain a welcoming atmosphere by ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction, addressing any issues promptly, and promoting a positive customer experience.
3. Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations, including opening and closing procedures, ensuring all areas of the café are ready for service.
4. Staff Scheduling: Assist with staff rotas, ensuring adequate cover for peak times, holidays, and weekends.
5. Training & Development: Train and mentor new staff, ensuring all team members are knowledgeable about products, health and safety regulations, and service standards.
6. Quality Control: Ensure the quality and presentation of food and drinks meet the café’s standards and are in line with health and safety regulations.
7. Health & Safety: Maintain a clean and safe environment, ensuring compliance with all food hygiene and safety regulations (HACCP).
8. Cash Handling & Till Operations: Ensure correct use of the till and payment systems.
9. Stock Management: Monitor stock levels, place orders, and manage inventory to avoid shortages or waste.
10. Problem Solving: Address operational issues as they arise, ensuring any disruptions to service are managed effectively.
Requirements:
1. Experience: 2+ years of experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry, ideally in a café or casual dining setting.
2. Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a busy environment.
3. Customer Focus: Strong customer service skills with a passion for delivering a high-quality guest experience.
4. Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
5. Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise workload, and work efficiently under pressure.
6. Problem-Solving: Strong decision-making skills and the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
7. Flexibility: Willingness to work weekends and public holidays, as the café is open 7 days a week.
8. HACCP: Knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards is essential.
Desirable:
* Barista skills or coffee knowledge
