Electrical Standards Lead
PE Global Recruitment is currently recruiting for an Electrical Standards Lead to join our client, a government power generation organization. This is a permanent position offering a competitive salary and benefits package. The role can be based in Cork or Dublin and offers a flexible hybrid work model.
The Role:
The Low Voltage (LV) Planning Team is responsible for the development of the low voltage distribution network to enable the Irish Government’s National Climate Action Plan targets. This includes a focus on the electrification of heat and transport, connection of renewables, and development of LV policies and standards.
The LV Electrical Standards Lead plays a key role by ensuring that all related documents are reviewed and developed in line with the constantly changing needs of customers, particularly regarding the adoption of Low Carbon Technology (LCT) in both new and existing premises connected to the LV network.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review, redefine, and ensure all LV electrical design standards, policies, and procedures align with organizational strategies and adapt to evolving external factors. This includes assessing and accounting for the impact of LCT adoption.
* Lead assessments and analyses of existing or emergent data sets (external and internal) relevant to LV design.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders in the Asset Management department (including overhead lines, underground cables, and protection), Commercial, and Smart Metering teams to support changes to LV design standards, policies, and procedures.
* Manage updates to documents through the internal document management system and processes.
* Develop new or updated design tools and processes to support the implementation of revised design standards.
* Train and brief teams on new LV design standards in collaboration with the Networks Training Centre.
* Provide support to local design team members with non-standard LV SI designs.
* Manage any third-party consultants or contractors required to provide specialist advice related to LV design standards.
* Represent the organization as an expert in LV standards and policy in international utility working groups.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including industry and peer groups.
* Author internal and external technical articles and reports, and present the organization’s work on electrification at external webinars and seminars to demonstrate progress to policymakers, senior management, and staff.
Experience and Qualifications:
* A primary degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
* 8+ years of relevant work experience.
* Knowledge and experience in distribution system asset management and utility company standards, particularly for MV/LV systems (overhead and underground networks).
* Highly skilled in creating technical documentation, report writing, and communication tailored to varied audiences.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience leading cross-functional initiatives to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality and safety standards.
* Experience in providing on-the-job training and knowledge sharing with junior or new team members.
* Proven ability to delegate and assign work to ensure timely completion aligned with priorities.
* Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to plan and communicate requirements to advance new initiatives, along with a track record of delivering work or projects.
* Strong stakeholder management skills, both internal and external.
* Familiarity with key engineering/business systems and tools, such as SAP and GIS systems.
* Experience with using document management systems and processes.
* Knowledge of regulatory bodies, industry standards, and government policies related to the Climate Action Plan.
* Familiarity with project management tools and techniques.
* Experience in risk management, including identification, assessment, mitigation, tracking, control, and management of project risks.
