Offer Description
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Assistant within UCD School of Medicine.
Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is a debilitating genetic skin condition which currently has no curative treatment options. New therapies are needed for this condition to improve the structural integrity of skin by restoring type VII collagen expression. The objective of this project is to employ a high-throughput technique for the screening of nanoparticle formulations using a microfluidic device. In order to accomplish this, the nanoparticles that have been screened in vitro will undergo testing in two mouse models for RDEB at UCD's animal facility within the scope of this project, aiming to evaluate their efficiency in gene expression in vivo.
This post is to fulfil key deliverables of the project, which involve providing assistance in the development of a nonviral gene therapy for RDEB. This will be achieved through activities such as:
1. Nanoparticle formulation using microfluidic-based high-throughput techniques
2. Evaluation of nanoparticle cell transfection
3. Quantification of type VII collagen expression through western blotting
4. qPCR analysis
5. Immunofluorescence staining
6. Immunohistochemistry assessment
Additionally, support will be provided for bacteria culture and plasmid extraction when necessary. The successful candidate will work as part of a well-established and dynamic research team in the UCD Charles Institute of Dermatology.
