The Role:
Backwater Artists are seeking a Trustee and Board Member with a Finance background who will advise on, monitor and evaluate the organisations financial controls, to ensure that the organisation is compliant and up to date with current legislation. We are looking for someone who also has an in-depth understanding of compliance and risk management and who will advise on the same.
If you have experience in this area and want to play a role in helping us, we’re keen to hear from you.
Ideal Candidate:
1. Be a qualified Accountant, ACA or CIMA qualified, ideally with at least 5 years senior management experience.
2. Strong attention to detail and understanding of Irish accounting standards.
Responsibilities will include the following:
1. To evaluate and monitor the adequacy of Financial controls and procedures and ensure the organisation is compliant with best practice principles.
2. To have oversight of compliance and risk management in the organisation.
3. To ensure transparency and accountability in financial matters.
4. To develop and update financial policies and procedures to strengthen management practices.
5. To provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making.
6. To identify risks and opportunities and make recommendations to the Board.
General Trustee duties of a Charity Trustee:
1. Comply with the Charity’s governing document.
2. Ensuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
3. Acting in the best interest of the charity.
4. Act with reasonable care and skill.
5. Manage the assets of your charity.
Board Meetings:
Meetings take place once a month in a hybrid form (both online and on the premises of Backwater Artists Group, Wandesford Quay, Cork, T12E26D). They currently take place on Tuesday evenings from 6-7pm. There are 11 meetings per year.
