To assist the manager of the home in accordance with its Statement of Purpose and to ensure the maintenance of a safe and caring environment in accordance with relevant childcare legislation, national standards and Ashdale Care (Ireland’s) Policies and Procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To assist the home manager in ensuring that all care practices comply with relevant childcare legislation, National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres and best practice.
2. Assisting with the day-to-day supervision and management of the home. Contributing to the assessment, planning and implementation of individual care plans.
3. Facilitate good communication and decision making between the young people we support, their families and the support team.
4. To promote, participate in and ensure high standards of emotional and physical care and safety for all young people in the home to meet the expressed needs of the individual young people and promote positive outcomes for them.
5. To attend and contribute to planning meetings, statutory reviews, and other meetings as required, representing the home in a positive fashion and where necessary, acting as an advocate for the young people and their family.
6. To foster positive relationships with parents, family, social workers, teachers, doctors, and relevant professionals and advocate for the young person’s needs, views and wishes.
7. Ensure our Model of therapeutic care is fully integrated within the homes care practices and to monitor and evaluate their application.
8. To carry out regular audits of care standards and practices within the home.
Staff Management:
1. Provide leadership and guidance, assist the Home Manager in the organisation and management of staff to maintain 24-hour cover and consistent care.
2. Assist in the induction and supervision of staff.
3. Assist staff with written reports, handovers and appraisals.
4. Promote a positive culture of learning and develop an annual team training plan.
Management of Finances:
1. Assist with budgetary control and ensure systems and policy is followed.
Other:
1. Create a homely setting with which children can identify.
2. To uphold a safe environment meeting legal requirements, including maintaining the building, grounds, equipment, and vehicles, while promoting care for surroundings and resource optimization.
3. Promote a high standard of childcare practice.
4. To enhance professional skills through supervision and courses aligned with the Homes’ training plan.
5. To participate in a duty rota and undertake sleeping-in duties if required.
