Overview Of Role
The post holder is responsible for maintaining infection control practices in the decontamination process, be able to relate to chemicals and detergents in use and management of spills and to assist in the smooth and effective running of the Endoscopy Unit.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
1. Ensure that flexible endoscopes and accessories are decontaminated in line with hospital policy and HSE guidelines. To include manual clean, high level disinfection in EWD and correct storage of reprocessed endoscopes in drying cabinet.
2. Adhere to all Infection control protocols as per IPC hospital policy. Correct use of PPE and correct handling of chemicals used for decontamination.
3. Ability to operate all decontamination equipment, leak tester, irrigation device, endoscopic washer disinfector and drying cabinet.
4. Perform water testing, environmental testing and endoscope protein soil testing as per hospital policy. Maintain records of all testing.
5. Maintain records of endoscope traceability and understand the importance of same.
6. Maintain stock levels of consumables required for the decontamination of endoscopes.
7. Communicate with nursing staff and ensure endoscopes are available for daily schedules.
8. Report to the CNM2 in Endoscopy any issues with endoscopes or reprocessing equipment.
9. Participate in the JCI and JAG accreditation processes.
10. Attend appropriate study days and courses. Attend all mandatory training within the hospital.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Educated to leaving cert standard or equivalent.
2. A relevant third level qualification is desirable but not essential.
3. Previous experience working within a similar environment is advantageous.
4. The ability to work on your own initiative in a fast-paced environment.
5. Work effectively as part of a team.
6. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
