We're looking for software development candidates to help shape the future of Data Virtualization on Prem and on the Cloud, of fundamental importance to IBM's strategic direction on containerised database offerings for IBM Cloud Pak for Data and IBM watsonx.data (IBM's lakehouse for AI workloads).
The capability is the next generation of distributed, highly parallelized, enterprise data virtualization capability key to the industry's future.
You'll work alongside local and global (in Asia, Europe and North America) multidisciplinary teams of Developers, Architects, Engineers and Analysts creating the future of Big Data in the context of AI.
Your role and responsibilitiesAs a Backend developer you will be responsible for development/ maintenance/ support of the services you develop through the full systems development lifecycle.Participate in the design and implementation of sophisticated software systems.Work with Product Architects and Product Managers to understand various priorities and work towards execution.Participate in software design and code reviews to ensure a high level of software quality and to share knowledge with team members.Participate in, and adhere to, professional software engineering practices using tools and methodologies such as Agile Software Development, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and source code management.Ensure good code coverage.
Support bug fixes during testing and deploy to target environments.Participate in the planning, creation and execution of automated test cases and load/performance testing.
Create/maintain technical documentation.Provide vigilance and compliance to various software engineering, support and release processes e.g., security, stack upgrades that are free of vulnerabilities.Required educationBachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertiseProficient in Java.Proficient in the use of command line shells.Strong grounding in an engineering or mathematically rich discipline.Preferred technical and professional experienceExperience with algorithms, data structures, Generative AI/LLMs.Familiarity with test automation frameworks.Container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and microservices.Experience in SQL, C/C++, Go Lang, Python development and various scripting languages.Expertise in Core Java, Java J2EE, MicroServices Architecture.Experience in federated data technologies like Gaian DB is a distinct advantage.Experience in connectivity and ETL from multiple data sources is desirable.Experience in distributed / HPC computing.Experience with Big Data & Hadoop software stack: HDFS, Hive, HBase, Ambari.Experience developing compilers and/or RDBMs.Experience in system & low-level programming (TCP/IP, multi-threading, IPC) on the Linux platform.Experience working in a globally distributed product-based engineering team.Hands-on experience in handling and debugging customer issues, working with L2 support team.ABOUT BUSINESS UNITIBM Software infuses core business operations with intelligence—from machine learning to generative AI—to help make organizations more responsive, productive, and resilient.
