Description The aim of the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Infection Prevention and Control is to optimise patient care through the prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education, research and control of healthcare-acquired infection (HCAI).
The post holder will work as part of the Infection Prevention and Control Team in line with the Strategy for Control of Antimicrobial Resistance in Ireland.
The post holder will contribute to patient care through prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education, research and control of healthcare-acquired infection (HCAI).
The post holder will be required to provide and maintain a comprehensive, efficient and effective infection prevention and control service for patients.
The appointee will work as a key member of the Interdisciplinary Infection Prevention and Control Team providing specialist infection control advice to all healthcare staff on surveillance, prevention, investigation and control of hospital-acquired infection.
The post will support and provide specialist experience to all healthcare staff.
The post-holder will work with the hospital Infection Prevention and Control Team.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist Infection Prevention and Control must carry out these responsibilities in a progressive and changing service, which meets International and National Standards as a member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team.
The appointee will work as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team providing specialist infection control advice, support and expertise to healthcare staff.
He/She will work closely with Infection Prevention and Control personnel including microbiology.
Education, research and development are paramount to the role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist Infection Prevention and Control so that practice is based on appropriate research and evidence.
