Design Engineer - County Louth
Main Purpose of Role:
The Design Engineer is part of the R&D team responsible for delivering new products to the business and improving existing ones. The role involves working against New Product Introduction (NPI) and Value Improvement (VI) processes, company procedures, and European and UK regulatory standards.
The Design Engineer participates in design-related activities to deliver NPI projects and develop a competence centre within R&D. This includes approaching tasks meaningfully, using expertise and knowledge, and striving for a best-in-class approach.

Key Accountabilities:
* Undertake mechanical design activities related to product lifecycle management of all products and solutions.
* Maintain a sound theoretical approach to design technology and demonstrate practical application of engineering knowledge in planning and specifying activities and problem-solving/solution evaluation.
* Promote innovation and advancement in technology and participate in or specify research in design.
* Complete activities in full, to time and cost to meet programme requirements.
* Knowledge and understanding of design principles, materials selection and optimisation, supplier design capability assessment, 3D modelling and 'material master' design BOM product lifecycle management.
* Contribution to continuous improvement, ensuring ongoing review of technology, processes and outcomes and implementation of new initiatives.
* Collaboration with third-party design and design for manufacture expertise/contracts as required to meet NPI and VI process programmes.
* Ongoing continuous professional development of own competencies and skills to meet programme requirements.
* Communication of information and knowledge to support effective decision making.
* Develop and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues.
* Undertake supplier liaison against the requirements of the vendor management process.
* Build understanding of customers and markets and work with others to improve customer service.
* Manage complex challenges in delivery and prioritisation and delivering the time cost specification and quality of NPI activities.
Requirements:
* Knowledge and understanding of engineering principles in relevant technology and competence centre fields.
* Strong background in product design and development and/or continuous improvement in a technical/engineering/manufacturing discipline.
* Awareness of effective planning and implementation of design activity.
* Strong analytical and critical reasoning skills, and implementation of solutions.
* Team player with excellent communication and networking skills with strong drive, initiative, and self-motivation.
* Ability to balance competing priorities and drive issues to completion.
* Awareness of markets and customers.
Desirable Criteria:
* Ideal experience in areas such as materials selection, sheet metal design, complex plastic and composite moulding part and tool design, design for manufacture and assembly, smart controls, thermodynamic and hydronic circuit design and control, quality management systems and processes.
* Excellent technical experience and advanced knowledge of own or professional discipline, and a working knowledge of other disciplines.
* Degree and/or professional qualification in relevant technical/engineering discipline or substantial hands-on operational experience in Mechanical Design R&D/Engineering environment.
* Significant and relevant post-qualification experience in a wide range of engineering and new product design and introduction roles.
