Job Description
Bilingual Paraprofessionals work at ESL sites with a large number of non-English-speaking students and parents. In addition to helping school personnel communicate with parents and students, paraprofessionals tutor students and improve family engagement at those sites, by communicating with families in a language they can understand.
Duties And Responsibilities
1. Understands and assists in upholding school rules, policies, and procedures.
2. Participates in the efficient and effective operation of the school as directed by the Principal.
3. Respects the confidentiality of information pertaining to students and staff.
4. Assists in fostering positive student attitudes.
5. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state & federal rules & regulations.
6. Engages in professional growth & demonstrates professional ethics & leadership.
7. Reports for duty at least 15 minutes before the opening of school and remains at least 10 minutes after close of school unless special contract requires other hours.
8. Plans regularly with assigned teacher.
9. Tutors individuals and groups of students as assigned.
10. Assists the teacher in student testing activities as assigned.
11. Maintains charts and records of students' performances and accomplishments as assigned.
12. Assists the teacher in preparing materials necessary for a positive learning environment.
13. Performs clerical tasks including inventory, filing, and typing, operates audiovisual equipment, and cares for equipment and materials.
14. Assists teacher with basic physical needs of students.
15. Takes all the necessary precautions to provide for the study and welfare of students.
16. Attends and participates in individual, school, and system professional development activities.
17. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with school staff, parents, and community.
18. Performs other necessary duties during school hours, assigned by the principal, to ensure the safe and effective operation of the school.
19. Ensures proper communication in Spanish and English between parents and school.
20. Promotes good public relations for the school system with the general public.
21. Maintains confidentiality of all school-related business.
22. Remains familiar with and follows Board of Education policies.
23. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Bilingual in both English and Spanish. Must have completed two (2) full years of credit hours of college or earned an Associate's degree. Aptitude and skills for the work to be performed.
