Senior Commercial Counsel - Construction Join to apply for the Senior Commercial Counsel - Construction role at Bord Gáis Energy .
About your role: As Senior Construction/Projects Counsel, you will advise the assets and services teams on all construction activities, from drafting and negotiating contracts, mid-stream construction advice to resolving disputes post-construction.
Here's what you'll be doing: Drafting and negotiating construction contracts, professional appointments, bonds, guarantees, collateral warranties, and associated documentation.
Providing robust and commercial legal advice in relation to various construction issues including contract interpretation, claims management, building regulations, and health and safety requirements.
Managing client engagements with minimal, but supportive, supervision.
Dealing with all types of dispute resolution processes, including adjudication, conciliation, mediation, court proceedings, and arbitration.
Keeping up to date with legal developments in the construction industry and assisting with internal know-how and the development of internal legal precedents.
Implementing training programmes and guidelines for Bord Gáis Energy functions on contract structures and dispute management.
Managing and liaising with external legal advisors where specialist legal advice is required, as approved by the Head of Legal.
Opportunities to develop broad expertise supporting the trading and retail businesses.
Developing other members of the legal team to embed construction law knowledge.
Here's what we're looking for: A professionally qualified lawyer with practising certificate in Ireland (or eligible to obtain) and a minimum of 7 years post qualification experience.
In-house experience is desirable but not essential.
Commercially savvy lawyer with business facing experience of successfully delivering complex and high-profile matters in a fast-paced environment.
A background in construction law including drafting and negotiating contracts, particularly FIDIC and NEC templates.
A working knowledge of one or more complementary areas of law, such as procurement, planning or financing and experience of energy infrastructure projects is also desirable.
Demonstrable ability to assess risk and deliver advice in a pragmatic manner, considering the wider regulatory framework and commercial drivers.
Skilled at building constructive relationships with senior business leaders.
Demonstrates the ability to proactively upskill in areas of new laws and regulation that impact Bord Gáis Energy and its business units.
Enjoys working within a fast-paced organisation with demonstrable ability to adapt and continuously learn.
