Athlone Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking a highly motivated Festival and Events Coordinator to join our team to promote and coordinate festivals and events across the region. The successful applicant will report to the CEO and work with external stakeholders to support the delivery of their festivals and events as a mechanism to boost tourism in Athlone and its environs.
Responsibilities:
1. Work with external stakeholders to support the development and promotion of their festivals and events.
2. Develop partnerships with organizations involved in hosting larger festivals and events and support volunteers by developing solutions for obstacles that can result in festivals/events not going ahead.
3. Develop a year-round calendar of festivals and events in the Athlone region and ensure that it is circulated via tourism portals and websites such as Athlone.ie, midlandsireland.ie, and the respective County Councils.
4. Ability to support multiple festivals and events while prioritizing workload appropriately.
5. Provide advice and guidance on key technical issues such as logistics, events licensing, budgets, insurance, health and safety, and the execution of festivals and events.
6. Identify key risks associated with festival and event management and help local organizations minimize risks through better management and planning.
7. Develop knowledge and strong ties with Local Government, Civil Defence, Order of Malta, HSE, An Garda Siochana, the Defence Forces, and other stakeholders.
8. Develop partnerships with accommodation providers and vendors in the region to assist with planning and capacity ahead of events.
9. Identify new marketing and funding opportunities for festivals and events in the Athlone area and help develop cost-effective marketing strategies.
10. Champion sustainability initiatives in festivals and events on an ongoing basis.
11. Lead community engagement initiatives.
12. Be the go-to source of information for festival and events committees.
13. Develop training workshops/sessions to ensure organizations understand the risks, opportunities, and rewards of hosting festivals and events.
14. Champion the development of the night-time economy by influencing festival organizers and engaging with tourism offerings in the region.
The Person:
The Festival and Events Coordinator is a self-motivated, solutions-focused, results-oriented individual with a passion for culture, tourism, and event management. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of the local area. The successful candidate will be skilled in hosting workshops with strong presentation skills.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in Event Management, Tourism, Business, or related discipline.
2. Strong market knowledge and communication skills.
3. Professional approach with excellent communication skills.
4. Results-driven and able to work independently and in a team.
5. Proficiency in MS Office.
6. Proficiency in social media applications.
7. Must be fluent in English, both oral and written.
8. Full, clean drivers’ license.
Schedule:
7.5 hour day, Monday to Friday, with weekend/evening availability. Competitive salary.
