Legal Advisor Role Profile
The Legal Advisor will be part of the Legal Affairs team and report to the Director of Registration & Legal Affairs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide legal advice and assistance to internal clients on a range of legal and regulatory issues across the organisation, in conjunction with other members of the Legal Affairs team.
* Prepare and contribute to the drafting of formal documentation including guidance, reports and website content, as appropriate.
* Liaise with external stakeholders, including other regulatory agencies and Government Departments, on legal issues of relevance to the Charities Regulator as required.
* Support the Director of Registration and Legal Affairs and other Unit Heads to ensure that the strategic priorities and operational goals of the organisation are met.
* Contribute to training and knowhow sessions for staff of the Charities Regulator to increase awareness of legal issues and any associated legal risks.
* Undertake speaking engagements and representing the Charities Regulator at events, as appropriate.
Essential Requirements
* Have been called to the Bar and be enrolled as a Barrister in the State or have been admitted and be enrolled as a Solicitor in the State; and practised as a Barrister or Solicitor in the State for not less than two years.
* Have 2 or more years relevant post qualification experience.
* Excellent writing skills and attention to detail as evidenced in the application form.
Skills and Experience
* Previous experience of working in a regulatory body or in advising regulators or regulated entities in relation to regulatory matters.
* Experience of advising on investigations or inquiries.
* A proven ability to exercise sound judgement, analytical thinking, and problem solving/decision making skills.
* A record of achieving challenging goals and managing and prioritising multiple work streams.
* Previous experience working as part of a team in delivering on organisational goals and projects.
* An ability to communicate and influence internal and external stakeholders.
* Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
* High levels of integrity and professionalism.
* Demonstrate a commitment to continuous self-learning and development.
* Excellent research skills and IT skills.
Desirable Experience, Knowledge and Skills
* An understanding of charity law and the current context within which the Charities Regulator operates.
* Previous experience of administering or advising on registration within a regulated sector.
* Previous experience of advising on statutory powers relating to compliance and enforcement, and associated activities.
* Experience of leading or advising on litigation matters.
* Knowledge or experience of corporate governance.
* Significant experience of dealing with relevant administrative law requirements associated with decision-making in a regulatory context.
* Strong drafting skills.
