Senior Project Engineer (Transport)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer (Transport ) to join our Transport Infrastructure business based in Ireland. This is a hybrid role and offices available are Dublin, Galway, Cork, Sligo and Kilkenny. About The Transport Infrastructure Business: With more than half the world’s population now living in urban areas, smart, safe and sustainable transport is one of the most crucial, yet complex questions facing our cities. Designing and delivering locally relevant transport systems requires careful consideration of many issues – from the impact on local ecosystems and land uses, to preferred models of funding, and the unique needs of communities and customers.We provide technical and advisory services across the entire project lifecycle. We’re proud to have worked on many of the most successful transport projects in Ireland and the UK, including roads and motorways, light and heavy rail, ports and airport upgrades, and sustainable transport projects including greenways and active travel. RPS has routed, designed, project-managed and supervised the construction of over 400km of Irish roads and motorways. We have pivoted towards other sustainable transport delivery, particularly rail and greenways in Ireland. We also have an active portfolio of international projects across UK, North America and Australia. About The Role: The Senior Project Engineer in Transport will work on the design and delivery of roads, rail, greenways and active travel projects from Inception through Planning, Design and Construction. Responsibilities: • Take responsibility for preparation of designs and reports appropriate to her/his experience level at all stages of a project lifecycle.• Ensure RPS quality and management procedures are complied with.• Able to motivate her/himself, takes ownership of issues and seek team participation to achieve best solution.• Willing to learn and develop.• Able to work on projects in a collaborative Level 2 BIM environment.• Ensure understanding of project management objectives.• Engage with Clients and design teams for project delivery. Key Skills & Attributes: • Experienced in the design of Transport projects, including roads, rail, public transport, etc.• Experience in Active Travel and Greenway projects.• Minimum of 6 years’ experience across design and construction phases.• Detailed knowledge of the relevant Irish and/or UK standards, including NTA, TII and DMRB design standards and guidance notes• Experience working on projects at various phases from options, preliminary design, tender design, detailed design, and construction.• Experience in liaising with Clients and working with them to achieve the required solutions.• Contract Documents experience advantageous, including Bills of Quantities, Specification, Contract Drawings• Ability to prepare 3D models using Civil 3D and be familiar with working in a collaborative Level 2 BIM environment.• Experience of working with drainage design software such as MicroDrainage to a high level of competency. Experience in other software such as HEC-RAS, Causeway Flow etc is an advantage.• Experience of highway drainage system design, culvert design, attenuation and pollution control design and natural catchment analysis.• Strong communication and presentation skills. Qualifications: • A Level 8 honours degree in Civil Engineering or related field.• Ideally a Level 9 master’s degree in engineering or cognate discipline.• Other specialist qualification in a transport related discipline is an advantage• Ideally Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartered engineer status.
