Quality Manager – Food Production
Our clients, an expanding Food Production company, in the Cavan / Westmeath locality, are looking to recruit a Technical & Quality Manager. As site Technical and Quality Manager you will be responsible for developing, implementing and ensuring that the overall Food Safety and Quality function is in compliance to legal, certification & customer requirements. You will provide assurance that the products supplied by the company meet statutory and customer requirements for Food Safety and Quality.
The Role:
* You will work with your own team and with management colleagues and all staff across departments to ensure that the quality of all products is being maintained, meets customer specification and that all products shipped from the company are safe, compliant and traceable.
* To foster a spirit of positivity, lead by example and ensure that you manage the technical and quality assurance function within the organisation in a fair, respectful and constructive manner
* To liaise with Departmental Managers and Operations Manager on a regular basis in relation to quality assurance matters that arise in order for them to be addressed quickly and without delay.
* To initiate change, be innovative and flexible in order to achieve continuous improvements in quality assurance.
* To encourage and support ideas and input from other work colleagues, engaging and involving them in the quality assurance process.
* To find solutions and problem solve issues that arise within the area of quality assurance demonstrating your ability to thinking laterally and objectively ensuring the validity and appropriateness of the HACCP system for all products.
* To Liaise and work in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine.
* To successful maintain the site GFSI certification standards.
* Provide technical knowledge and advice in areas of Food Safety and legal requirements so as to support the business vision, needs and goals.
* To develop, and improve the quality systems and process plans for the site operation and ensure consistency with the company and agreed customer requirements along with meeting EU rules and regulations.
* Develop and implement technical improvement projects in response to any potential non-conformances exposed through audits and customer complaints.
* Regulatory compliance; keep the company informed on any impending legislation changes, scientific and technical development and codes of practice or other changes taking place that may impact on the business.
* Liaison with key customer contacts ensuring that all information relating to these accounts are maintained in a comprehensive manner.
* Management of the Technical Relationship with all customers, suppliers and service providers
* Participation in the R&D Steering process for all strategic projects (those projects which involve a new ingredient, component, product type, key product parameters which may affect safety or shelf life, process, piece of equipment, packaging or product application compared to that which is already in the business and is well understood.
* Risk Assessment of all new engineering, processing equipment and plant service related proposed investments or modifications to comply with BRCGS
* To develop the Technical team by leading by example, mentoring, advising in a technical capacity, encouraging teamwork and contributions, along with communicating on key goals and information.
* To set meaningful and measurable goals for departmental members, monitor progress and give regular feedback along with support for improvement and encouragement for individual development
The Person:
* Hold a relevant 3rd level qualification in a Food Science or related subject
* Previous experience within food manufacturing Technical or Quality management. Experience in a processing environment of prepared foods.
* Previous experience of working with retailers and their audit requirements is essential.
* Experience of BRCGS certification audits is essential.
* Good IT skills and able to use Microsoft Office in a proficient manner
* Experience of managing projects, managing people and managing colleagues to achieve results is essential.
* Ability to work to strict deadlines within a fast paced environment is important
* You must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work on your own initiative.
* Good judgement skills and the provision of solutions to challenges would be key to success in a busy factory producing a number of types of products and engaging in business development.
* You must be highly organized and flexible to meet the needs of the business
* A high level of autonomy, understood to be necessary for creativity and innovation, is envisaged to be afforded a suitable candidate.
