The duties of the Community Warden are to perform, under the discretion and supervision of the appropriate Line Manager, such duties as may from time to time be assigned to you in relation to your employment and as may be appropriate to any particular function of any local authority for which the Chief Executive is responsible and carry out such instructions as may be given in relation to the performance of duties.
DUTIES OF THE ROLE SHALL INCLUDE:
* Enforcement of Traffic Regulations, as covered by existing wardens in respect of stationary vehicles.
* Monitoring Public Open Space and Recreation and Amenity areas throughout the City with regard to the following activities:
* Compliance with bye-laws in relation to consumption of intoxicating liquor in public places.
* Compliance with the Litter Pollution Act.
* Compliance with the licensing requirements of the Dog Control Act.
* Compliance with the Control of Horses Act.
* Compliance with other bye-laws introduced by Galway City Council.
* Use of pedestrian facilities by cyclists.
* Illegal camping.
* Other activities which are licensable by Galway City Council (e.g. opening of roads, placing of skips in public roads, erection of scaffolding, placing of tables and chairs on public roads, non-motorised passenger transporters, etc.)
* Identifying and reporting on breaches of tenancy agreements, for example sub-letting and carrying out commercial activity.
* Identify breaches of Planning legislation, Buildings Control Legislation, and Pollution Control Legislation for follow up by appropriate personnel.
* Identify and notify appropriate personnel of hazards or other problems identified which require rectification by Galway City Council, for example, hazards on footpaths, damage to signage, inadequate road marking, defective public lighting.
* Enforcement of litter and Waste Presentation Regulations as appropriate.
* Enforcement of the provision of the Roads Act and consequent regulations as appropriate.
* Provision of information and advice to tourists/visitors as appropriate.
* The person appointed may be required to work (overtime) after normal hours as and when required subject to the provisions of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 for which payment at appropriate rates will be paid.
* To carry out all duties allotted to them by the supervisor or other nominated officer.
* To be familiar with relevant policies, bye-laws and legislation.
* Implement procedures in accordance with training provided.
* To keep such books and records as directed by the Local Authority associated with any aspect of Community Warden Duties.
* To comply with work safety procedures in operation in Galway City Council and to fully participate in any further safety programmes that may be implemented. To wear any safety equipment/clothing supplied. To implement safety requirements as set out in Galway City Council’s Safety Management System and to ensure that safe work practices are exercised.
* Attend and give evidence in Court.
* Be helpful and courteous to members of the public at all times.
* Liaise closely with staff of various sections of Galway City Council.
* The successful candidate will be required to operate all equipment provided, including any new technology which may be introduced in the future.
* To avail of modern communications such as mobile phones, radio, etc. as directed and co-operate with and use any new technology/equipment that may be provided.
* Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Services/Senior Engineer/Executive Engineer or as delegated.
